Re: What is the right charger for my boat?

I think the one I posted (from Amazon) was a 40 amp, and the one you mentioned is 30 amp. But I agree that they're the same, so whatever source is the best deal. I like Amazon myself.

Charge Controller/Voltage Reg

I went through a similar thought process when I accidentally fried my OEM Hitachi alt. In the marine alternator world, there seems to be two options: cheap and crappy, or expensive and awesome. Not...

Charge Controller/Voltage Reg

I believe most or all of Maine Sail's comments were actually oriented to the alternator. Regarding the external regulator, I know from other postings and conversations that he favors the Balmar...

House battery bank seperation

If you install positive and negative bus bars in the vicinity of your charging sources, then you can connect your charging sources (and load center) to them, and just run one long cable pair from the...

Re: House battery bank seperation

You can minimize the imbalance by connecting the positive and negative leads of your charger (and load center) to opposite sides of the parallel strings. Like this:

Re: Water Temp sending unit/switch connection

After pondering a bit, I realize that the switch would read open circuit resistance, and the sending unit would read some finite resistance at ambient temperature.

Re: Water Temp sending unit/switch connection

Oh, and one other question: Is there a way to tell by looking (or with a multimeter) which of these is the sending unit and which is the high temp switch? I want to make sure I hook them up...

Water Temp sending unit/switch connection

My boat has a Yanmar 2QM15 (raw water cooled), and originally came with a high temp alarm (and low oil pressure alarm). The PO installed gauges so he could keep an eye on the temperature and...

Source for Raymarine Tillerpilot Cable?

Due to one-to-many plug replacements, the cable on my Raymarine ST2000 tiller pilot is getting too short, and I'd like to replace it (the cable). It has four conductors - two are about 16 gauge...

Re: Best way to clean full canvas cover?

I had not thought of the garbage can idea, which is a good one.

I used the BAC stuff on my boat and bimini/dodger. It worked well on lichen. Got the idea from Windborne in Puget Sound blog. You...

Re: Best way to clean full canvas cover?

Actually, there is very little green stuff at this point - mostly just bird droppings. My bimini is sunbrella, but this is just canvas (probably intentionally for breathability). Ill start with...

Re: Best way to clean full canvas cover?

Thanks for the tip!. Cover was actually made by the PO, and he did a nice job with it.

Best way to clean full canvas cover?

My 28 foot sailboat has a full canvas cover. Uses the boom and spinnaker pole as ridge poles, and hangs down past the toerail. Lots of canvas, bit it does separate into three sections for storage.

Re: Raw water cooling - walk away?

I've been told that the reason manufacturers have gone to FWC is so they can use (cheaper) general purpose motors, rather than the purpose built RWC engines.

Re: Sailboat Insurance

Well, I ended up purchasing a policy from Seaworthy, through IMIS. Coverage much better than Progressive (which I expected), but at a lower price (which I didn't expect). And it was really nice to...

That makes good sense. I submitted a couple online quote requests yesterday (to Boat US and a couple broker/agents). Will see where that leads. Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean. I suppose it would be nice to have an agent or broker that I could sit down with and have a chat, but I'm not sure that's worth paying for. (To me),

30 years of home...
