Re: Runaway diesel
North, it means a diesel that runs and runs and runs on its own - so how can you stop it? Remember, diesels ignite by compression, no spark plug. So opening the ignition circuit to stop the engine...

Harb, activecaptain has notes about shoaling issues and buoy changes on the ICW - for example for the guys who grounded & holed their Moody at Ponce Inlet, there's about 4 shoaling areas noted, with...

Re: Runaway diesel
a) Sounds like part of the runaway problems being discussed here may be specific to 2-cycle diesels which have ports in the side of the cylinder and therefore a potential path for oil to come up from...

Stick with it!
Try out the suggestions. Measure your speed and establish you can master the currents while motoring. Take it one stage at a time.
Heck, find a SNer to come with you if you need...

Re: Is Sailing Sexist?
Old the old boat (OB in well and too far forward for easy reach from helm), we anchored with me on the bow, my then-5-year-old son on the throttle, and my then-7-year-old daughter at helm. Worked...

Re: how to go about gaining a title for a abandoned boat
Check whether you need one. Here in Ontario, for example, there doesn't seem to be any form of registration for anything powered by under 10HP.
A trailer needs a plate, but a boat is good as-is.

Read Bahamas, my fault.
Personally would want to go to the big end of the displacement range given the price parameters, even Lake Ontario can get pretty unpleasant for boats around 30' or less.

Ever hear of the phrase "first world problems" ? We should coin a new term: "big boat problems."
I think you should sell the yanmar, and downsize till your boat can be adequately...

You could definitely get a Sandpiper 565 or the similar sized Edel, or a Tanzer 22, look on Craigslist and Kijiji in the Toronto area. Probably even a little cheaper. All will offer some inside space...

Don't test that while underway - you're only a residence when the hook is dropped or you're tied up (dropping for lunch and having a beer doesn't count either - has to be you're parked for the...
