Re: What a beach apparently looks like after a Sunsail flotilla has visited

I guess that is why I could never have been a chauffeur.

However, perhaps you are right - that is all that a flotilla captain is. Pretty sad state of affairs that the role of a ship's captain has...

Re: Labrador...

Darn!

That is another trip I have to plan for with my retirement boat.....Looks like she will need the insulation after all.

I am blown away by the pics.

Great thread. Perhaps too...

Re: What a beach apparently looks like after a Sunsail flotilla has visited

If you were giving someone a ride in your car and they wound down the window and started throwing trash out, would you ask them to stop and think twice about whether you would give them a ride again?...

You are, of course, right. Even if it were a safety question ashore, it would not be the responsibility of the Captain in his capacity as Captain.

I don't think it is a legal issue so much as a...

Re: What a beach apparently looks like after a Sunsail flotilla has visited

So I checked......

A group of British charterers with a Sunsail captain and mechanic leading the group. The reaction of this captain to being asked not to leave rubbish all over the beach was...

Re: What a beach apparently looks like after a Sunsail flotilla has visited

I have sent the link to the person who was there and hopefully she can answer the more specific questions.

The reason I posted it was because I was curious as to whether others had experienced...

Re: What a beach apparently looks like after a Sunsail flotilla has visited

Good question. I will ask and then post the answer.

Apparently the skipper and mechanic on the lead boat were from Sunsail but it may have been a group of charterers who decided to sail together....

What a beach apparently looks like after a Sunsail flotilla has visited

A friend is sailing in Greece and posted the following to her Facebook page. I wonder if this is a rogue occurrence or have others experienced similar?

"We have been anchored at this lovely beach...

Re: Which Ensign should I fly?

Thanks for the feedback. I will check what the legal status is. Like you, I was surprised that she can be on two registers.

She is definitely not USCG registered so sounds like USVI document is...

Which Ensign should I fly?

I will be sailing a vessel that is registered in both the U.S. Virgin Islands and on the British Small Ships Register. I intend to take her into the Spanish Virgin Islands and the BVI.

While I am...

Re: Best week to sail in MA

I envy you the decision. Just moved away from MA but had some of our best fun down among the islands. Your first choice is likely to be whether you swing East or West. Unlikely you can do Nantucket...

Re: Interesting Sailboats

Paulo

Thank you so much for the comprehensive answer. I share your view that it is the sailing experience rather than the exploration of shallow places that matters most. Although I have not been...

Re: Why is beam reach (or near to it) the fastest point of sail?

Gosh, isn't it fun when someone oversimplifies an issue in an attempt to illustrate a point, then gets called out on their ovsimplification and spends pages and pages trying either to defend their...

If you are interested in looking deeper, then Magazine Articles (http://www.arvelgentry.com/magaz.htm) is a good source. Although it is 40 years old, it shows that most school text books are even...

Re: Beginner in Boston, MA

Community Boating costs about $150 per year membership and I don't think the lessons cost anything. Dinghy sailing (including small keelboats) so certainly a good starting point.

It is on the...

I am not sure whether any of the sailing schools will offer lessons for work. More likely a boat owner prepared to sail with you in return for maintenance help.

Incidentally, if you want proper...
