Re: Water Heater

Thanks Alex, but the Admiral swooned when she heard, "pressure water, hot & cold" so that might not be a viable option.

It does take up some space.

Re: Water Heater

Thanks again for great info, Maine Sail.

My new boat has the same sort of system and the loop to the water heater runs in parallel with the engine heat exchanger.

I asked the surveyor about the...

Re: Canada; UNSAFE FOR CRUISERS!!!

I have a cousin-in-law from Canada.

Whenever the rest of the family starts bashing Canada, she goes to get her feelings checked.

For free. ;)

Re: How to run aground properly

I agree, but he missed the three most important things about running aground:

Location, location, location.

I prefer to run aground in full view of my boat club. Or at least on the river where...

Re: Macgregor 25 or Ranger 26

I love my Catalina 25, but it is clearly a boat that can be trailered and not a trailer-sailer. Many have swing keels that make launch and retrieve much easier and it is still not easy.

I think...

Re: Boat brands

I guess I can resurrect a thread that is only 'mostly dead'*, especially if I have an update.

We are in the process of buying a 1978 Bristol 29.9. I looked at a few of them and then found 'the...

Re: 1982 Catalina 25 in Eliot, ME $5,500

Brand new sails and a dependable 4 stroke Honda!

Chartplotter and VHF (with DSC & AIS) new in 2013!

Stereo and LED lights in cabin!

I have committed the cardinal sin of buying my new boat...

Re: Removing Deck Hardware Fasteners - No Luck

Assuming that the underside is too remote to do anything, and after you've given up on backing them out with the slot and a driver (impact or other):

I'd first try to drill out the very center and...

Re: Surveyor in RI?

Thanks again, guys.

We put in an offer on the boat; the waiting game has begun.

Of course, I can't schedule anything until we agree on a price and then everything needs to happen at once.

I...

Re: What boat is this?

When I was trailer sailing, I stored the rudder in the cabin.

One can hope the PO did as well.

Surveyor in RI?

Greetings,

If all goes well this weekend, I'll need a 1978 Bristol 29.9 surveyed in RI and transported to ME.

Can anyone recommend a surveyor in the area?

I had someone tell me that...

Re: Newbie in Del.

Hi Beej! Welcome aboard.

I was also very nervous about docking; especially when I went from my 18' to this huge 25! :laugher

There's nothing to it but to do it. The odds are that it will be...

Re: How many sailors actually know how to sail?

One of the many things I love about sailing is the opportunities it constantly provides to improve my game. Getting underway; docking; anchoring; raising sails; lowering sails... Every performance is...

Re: House batteries won't start engine - ideas?

Their lights got noticeably brighter, but the...

Re: Standard diesel for Bristol 29.9?

Thanks, guys!

I didn't know that the A4 came in different hp ratings; everyone just says "Atomic 4" never "12hp Atomic 4". Then again my hearing is shot...

There were no pics of the engine in...

Re: Standard diesel for Bristol 29.9?

I found my notes from a B29.9 I looked at last year; it had the 2QM15, from the factory, in 1979. So that where I got that idea.

While we're on the subject, how can a 15hp diesel take over for a...

Re: Standard diesel for Bristol 29.9?

Thanks, Barq.

I found site with the info from the original sales brochure and it also said 'Yanmar 15hp diesel'.

So, in 1977 (according to the site you linked to) that must have been a 2QM15...

Standard diesel for Bristol 29.9?

I'm looking at a Bristol 29.9 this Friday. The ad says it has a Yanmar YB12 single cylinder 10hp engine. The age is the same as the boat, so it must be original.

The Boat US review says these...

Re: What did you learn to sail on?

About 2 years later, I took lessons on a Widgeon 13 at the Navy Special Services dock. Then I...

I was thinking earlier this week (I have a long drive) that if my brother and I both had DSC radios interfaced with our chart plotters, only one of us would need to have radar. A 'call and answer'...

Re: Nomadic engine in Ericson 35-2?

I read today that one of the faults of the early 35-2 hulls was that the prop shaft was only 3/4". It seems likely that this was fixed on this boat during the engine refit.

I also saw some pics of...
