Dome Light Conversion to LED

Has anyone replaced the dome light bulbs (dual bulb configuration) with LED's? The only conversion kits I've found (Dr. LED) have one large LED array and a base connector as opposed to pins.

The...

Re: boom for C37

If it's a LeFiell, it's certainly worthwhile to take a look at LeFiell. We've replaced our mast & boom with new sections as part of our refit on our '84 34. The pricing was very, very reasonable. The...

Re: Varnish removal: should I, could I?

On Jo Beth, we varnished for a few years, then let it get away from us. We typically used a combination of heat gun and scrapers and did reasonably well. We were always at the dock, plugged in to...

Re: Florida anchoring restrictions survey

I started a thread about this in the Pacific Seacraft forum. The mods have moved it to the Destinations forum and placed it in SE US Coast & Florida forum. Here's the link:

Re: Keel repair

Interesting. I'll be interested to hear what he says, and to hear about your keel dropping experience! That's quite the project.

Yes, the boats are beautiful, in and out of the water. I noticed...

Florida Fish & Wildlife Anchoring Survey

Many of us pass through, or cruise in FL waters on our trips, whether it's a return from the Bahamas or Caribbean, or FL itself is the destination.

The fact that FL has been a sort of 'wild-west'...

Re: Keel repair

Wow. That's worth a call to Thumper at PS. He's been able to help us a lot with our boat's history during our refit. If you need his number, send a PM and I'll pass it along to you.

Re: Vetus Deck ventilator

Perhaps a tad late to the party, but we also replaced our mushrooms (we went from the original Vetus cowl assemblies to dorades and boxes) and had no issues with sizing.

Re: Raw water anti-syphon valve

We have the arrangement aboard Jo Beth which Bill describes here. It's an annoyance to have dribbling water in the cockpit, but for us the pros have outweighed the cons. We've left it as is and live...

Re: Bronze portlights suddenly oxidize on interior

I think its very unlikely the cause of the discoloration you've described is due to electrolysis or galvanic action. For such an environment to develop, the metals must be immersed in an electrolyte,...

Re: Bronze Oval Portlights

Interesting find and good to know. They do look exactly like those we have on Jo Beth.

Re: Water filter for filtering tank water

As part of our refit, we purchased a GE in-line filtration system at Home Depot, for an under sink install. The filter housing was around $36 and the filter canisters are around $40. As best we could...

Re: Location of official hull number

Definitely do this - overzealous LEOs can ruin your day.

Ours is in the propane locker, just to port (looking aft) of the chainplate. The propane tanks are pretty much the only thing we keep...

Re: Crealock-34 head

If you have a rebuild kit from Groco a new Joker valve should be in there.

It's not something I look forward to doing, but the rebuild on one of these heads isn't anything to be intimidated about....

Re: Crealock-34 head

Our rebuilt Groco K pump arrived late last week - we dealt with Patrick there as well - and it looks like new. He even cleaned up a shut off valve on the intake line which the previous owners had...

I've been able to get it from the local West Marine store, or from an independent chandler in my area.

Re: Sheets for a PSC 34 V berth

We replaced ours with a FRP one straight from PS. The old wooden one was shot.

Re: Crealock-34 head

It's been a couple of months since I've had a chance to pop in. Lo and behold, here's a discussion of one of the issues we've come up against in our refit.

We decided to replace our old Groco KH...

Re: Dodger

We're also doing a new dodger on Jo Beth. Our biggest issue was/is visibility when standing. With our existing dodger, the back bow crosses right at our line of sight. The new one will be slightly...

Re: Mast Pulpit on a 34

Very true. I find that proper dorades and boxes have the same effect. Jo Beth is getting those as well.

Re: Mast Pulpit on a 34

These will be the first set we've had on our own boat, but we've sailed on other boats fitted with them. The addition of the pulpits - or crutches or 'sissy-bars' - is something we've wanted to do...

Re: Mast Pulpit on a 34

Brian -

We checked out your installation before making our final decisions. We definitely believe they will make life aboard more safe and comfortable. Interesting idea on the jack line routing -
