Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

Delta-T - you got it! I took that picture two days ago as I sailed by; now I can update my blog with the pictures since you've guessed it. Sorry, Obelisk - I was sure you'd come in first and narrow...

Re: Canada; UNSAFE FOR CRUISERS!!!

Capta,

you might not be as safe as you think - from recent SN threads:

- What anchor do you have?
- What safety gear do you have - flares, liferaft, fire extinguishers
- I gather you need an...

Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

It is in the Caribbean - but it could be one in St. Martin, St. Barths, Guadeloupe (including the Saintes and Marie Galante) and Martinique. Which lighthouse is it? (i.e. Obelisk, your guess was...

Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

Mark - I think you posted that picture on a similar thread in another forum a couple of years back and I vaguely remembered that it was in Oz, and since I've got good internet here in Deshaies and...

Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

I believe it is Refuge Bay, NSW. But I can only think of Captain Sidney and the team of trainees at Camp Z who might have showered there...

Re: Buying a family cruiser in the Caribbean.....advise?

TQA - I checked last night, the single mooring ball with the garden hose filling station is actually just past the Blue Bay dock looking towards town. I am going to dive the cruise ship dock today...

Re: Buying a family cruiser in the Caribbean.....advise?

TQA - I just visited some friends on a catamaran who were filling up at the mooring ball with the hose not more than 10 minutes ago. It is bright yellow , close ashore and almost in front of the...

Re: Buying a family cruiser in the Caribbean.....advise?

I'm in Dominica right now - $40EC (about US$13) for a fill using a garden hose at a mooring with no limit, you can fill all the tanks plus wash the boat.
St. Barths - 15Euros for 1 cubic meter (1000...

Re: Pirates bight at norman island reopens after “make over”

BTW - When I was there I asked about the source of the fire and it turns out to have been started by a linseed oil soaked rag!

Re: Pirates bight at norman island reopens after “make over”

Last month the construction process wasn't far beyond foundation and scaffolding, so I do not think that the new Pirate's is open; but the temporary restaurant and bar is superior to most watering...

Are you willing to give the poor unwashed and graphically challenged hoi-polloi a hint on this one?

Re: safe cooking

The option that I chose, and that nobody here has mentioned so far, is an electric galley. I have a Ceran 4 burner stove and oven aboard which is quite energy efficient. Baking bread or other things...

Re: Wave powered propeller

The Suntory Mermaid II - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is a wave-powered ship that has gone from Hawaii to Japan, so the energy is there to harness and the idea isn't as far-fetched as it might...

Re: Bottom slime

I think that any speed gain by getting a smoother surface will be offset by the amount of antifouling that gets removed during the de-sliming process. I've got fresh Islands 66 this year and, for...

Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

Looks like some really good parallel parking in the distance. Or perhaps a blockade that the sailboat has successfully run.

Re: Dolfin planing plates for small outboard

I disagree, I've had 3 outboards onto which I mounted the Dolphin or similar plates and it has made a world of a difference each time. No cavitation anymore and the dinghies really do go on a plane...

Re: Advice on Clearing in and Out of the Leeward Islands
