Thanks for the reply eherlihy.

I believe the glow plugs are working well. I say this because all the wiring on the engine is new from a diesel re-seller in Virginia called Trans-Atlantic diesels....

In neutral it behaves perfectly and can be revved to 3k or so.

We aren't running that hot I think. When we took it out yesterday it didn't get over 200F. Straight up on the temp gauge is around 180 though so I think its running hot?
