Homemade Permanent(?) Dinghy Paint

Having goten tired of scraping goo off my Dyer dinghy's bottom, and realizing that metallic copper inhibits marine growth, I made my own bottom paint for less than $30. (Not as simple as just buying...

Re: .jpg file wont upload

Not sure which browser I tried. I just went to a PC using Firefox. Same problem. If you can provide a proven computer/browser combo, I'll use it.

I'd much prefer to have the images for...

Re: .jpg file wont upload

I've had the same problem. I don't disagree with the solution posted, but I'm stubborn enough to wonder why the photo upload doesn't work. I'm using a Mac, and maybe that's the problem.

Re: Buy bigger or keep "old faithful"?

Landlocked66c -

You're right on the money. What kind of a person would post, on a sailing forum no less, that "my wife likes this classic, sturdy, much nicer boat, I can afford it,...

Re: Buy bigger or keep "old faithful"?

Cruiser2B:
We know people on the dock (powerboaters) who ALWAYS want a bigger boat. They're never really totally satisfied, but they DO enjoy their boat. It's just that there's always better...

Re: Buy bigger or keep "old faithful"?

SVCarolina:

We're going to "cheat" regarding the slip. We're supposedly limited to 32 ft., but there are other, larger boats at our dock. What I don't look forward to is the anxiety of...

Buy bigger or keep "old faithful"?

I've had a 27 ft. Ericson with an Atomic 4 for 7 years or so. Thought I'd like bigger, so started looking. Finally (after looking at a LOT of junk) found one that my wife and I REALLY...

Re: Boat Broker Ethics

The above explains a lot. When it cost $$$ for the haul out as part of the survey is when the broker brought up the contract with deposit. They would (I guess) use part of the deposit to pay for...

Re: Boat Broker Ethics

George B:

This week; but, it's been at least 10 days until he was going to be in the area. I was somewhat concerned that this would happen, but the only alternatives I saw were driving down...

Re: Boat Broker Ethics

Dave:

Thanks for summing up the lessons learned. I agree on all points.

At one point I had decided to have a full survey done, and the broker said that he'd need a contract signed for...

Re: Boat Broker Ethics

Buying a $20K boat, sight-unseen, and never having seen a similar model before would be scary for anyone of sound mind, I believe. That is the position I was in. I was following the advice of one of...

Re: Boat Broker Ethics

I JUST realized the thinking behind the boat broker's behavior. If he commits to me, via a deposit etc. (legally binding), then he loses opportunities with other prospects who might have called,...

Re: Bristol 34 visit possible?

I HAD applied to Bristolyachts and am facing the same "cold shoulder". Apparently the group manager feels the group is better off with fewer members.

Thanks for the clarification. My...

Boat Broker Ethics

I had been dealing with a broker regarding a Bristol 34. This was a long-distance relationship, and I have never seen a Bristol 34.

As time passed, I became seriously interested in the...

Bristol 34 visit possible?

I've gotten some very good advice that a Bristol 34 would be a very good choice for my particular circumstances. Unfortunately, I've never been inside of one, nor even seen one from the outside.

Re: Am I Nuts?.....And if so, what do I do now?

inshallamiami:

The answer to your question "Could you move to a different slip on another dock?" goes to the heart of the matter.

The direct answer....sure, we could move.

Then,...

Re: Am I Nuts?.....And if so, what do I do now?

Freedom007:

Thanks for the response!

There DOES seem to be some sort of "accumulating buffer", so that if I'm alone for a period of time I can later enjoy other's company without feeling...

Am I Nuts?.....And if so, what do I do now?

I love sailing for the adventure, peace, challenge and beauty that it brings. And I have enjoyed moorings for the sense of "coming home" that pulling up in the dinghy brings. Also, the communion with...

Diesel Engine Odor

I've gotten experience with two sailboats, both Atomic 4 powered Ericsons. In looking for a larger vessel with more space and amenities, most are diesels, and in my perception, they smell.
