How about tying one end to the main halyard, and hoisting it up. Let it hang for a bit. Or tie a weight to the bottom to help it unwind.

Yea cigars and caffeine are my vices. Drives the GF crazy cause I usually have 2 liter bottle close by, sometimes rolling around. :D

While technically I think you're right there, I honestly don't think I've seen many dingy in my harbor use a 360* nav light. Most have none, a flashlight is all I've ever used. I've never heard of...

If you took the whole winch apart and reassembled it, you could have put the ratchet gear on backwards. (I think it's called that) The gear the pawls click into. It's easy to do and will seem ok...

Ha Ha, I have one of those on my throttle cable (totally rusted out though) figured that's what it was put there for but my throttle slips still. I use a 1/4" line around the binnacle that I hook...

I use one of those thick zip lock type bags that are made for them. It works fine, wasn't too expensive ($20?) No protection from dropping it though.

I mostly keep it out of the bag tho unless...
