Re: Wood work, bottom paint, keel bolts on Pearson 26

Thank you ! Sandblaster rental was more affordable than expected (incl. delivery of the compressor), getting ready to clean these bumps and rust patches before applying the new barrier coat. Tech....

Re: Wood work, bottom paint, keel bolts on Pearson 26

Oh-also, stripping/scrapping didn't work so well on the kell that has a lot of bumps and is not flat enough. I found a sandblaster for rent and it looks like it would be perfect for the cast iron....

Re: Wood work, bottom paint, keel bolts on Pearson 26

I'm really gratefull for the input that kept me from ordering a too heavy/thick door or expensive wood that I couldn't cut with my jig saw (? My wood experience stops at pine/plywood). Looking af the...

Re: Wood work, bottom paint, keel bolts on Pearson 26

Thank you ! Great help for the furler, you're right, there's a lot of info and parts on the web! Still looking for smoked acrylamide thick enough (3/4 in I guess) for a companionway door but the...

The original roller furler that came with my Pearson 26 looks old but nothing like it can't be fixed or part replaced. However I can't find the make of the system (labels have peels off and I don't...

Re: Wood work, bottom paint, keel bolts on Pearson 26

Thank you very much Faster and FoggyBottom !
I've looked in lumber stores around for mahogany plywood or teak boards and had no luck ; I'd rather the door be of wood than Starboard but I'll keep the...

Hi all,
I just bought my new sailboat, a Pearson 26. It is robust and in great shape (deck, hull, bulkhead, chain plates, etc...) but needs to be refreshed and I'm seeking some advice. It hasn't...

Re: Old Tanzer 22 for ocean sailing ?

Thank you for the advice and links ! These tanzer22 do look akward and the deck seems closer from the water than other boats this size (they "sit low in the water" ?): do the cockpit get waves more...

Old Tanzer 22 for ocean sailing ?

Hello,
I'm looking into buying an affordable boat and found a Tanzer 22 <$2000. In a lot of reviews I read about people sailing it in lakes. Would it be a safe boat for coastal cruising in Maine ? I...

Re: New to sailnet, Mainer who wants to get into sailing

A friend from the yacht club sailed from Maine to NS on a Pearson 30. I am not very experienced but would imagine you'd want an inboard engine and appropriate electronics (my previous boat was under...

Re: Repair of broken hull around keel stub

The insurance carrier hasn't seen the boat yet ; they said on the phone they probably will "total" it but want to see it nevertheless - I'll know by monday. The difficulty of finding another...

Re: Repair of broken hull around keel stub

Thank you for bringing some humor in. What I meant is that, I guess, the older the boat (on these small budget sail boats), the higher the probability of hidden cracks, weird repairs, etc... that...

Re: Repair of broken hull around keel stub

I did save the motor and brought it immediately to a pro - had been told that if it was washed in fresh water and winterized immediately there was a chance to save it even after a week in sea water....

Unhappy Re: Repair of broken hull around keel stub

Thank you all for your advice ! what looks clear now is that spending the winter fixing it is not an option anymore. I haven't worked with epoxy/fiber glass before and I underestimate probably how...

I've been reading this forum since I've been looking for a boat, then, after getting my 1st sailboat, a 1976 C&C24, and now, that repairs are needed much earlier that I'd like, I thought I would tap...
