Re: Chain plates

A word of from someone who has already had this experience - you must replace the entire bulkhead, not just do some patchwork.

Re: Canadians: Station License or not?

Thank you Jackdale.

Someone who knows has answered your question.

Don't even think of operating your VHF without proper paperwork in place.

Re: 1973 Grampian 26' -- Opinions & Questions

We love our '73 G26. Hull is number 583, NFS PHRF is 237, fabulous well built boat.
Check the chainplate fastening area to ensure the bulkheads are in good shape. Bulkheads on these boats...

Re: Working Head on a Pearson 26

Not true - they are legal in Ontario if they are MSD versions (fastened in place with waste pumpout and air breather hoses vented to outside).
Properly maintained, they never present any of the...

Re: Working Head on a Pearson 26

You will get more flushes using a Thetford MSD than you will from a plumbed in head and holding tank on a 26' Pearson.
We get 63 flushes on ours - used to get about 30 when we had a plumbed in...

Here's a link to a tuning guide from the C&C website. It dates back to 1976, and applies to Grampian as well. Go down to "Tuning Tips"

Re: Painted Topside and Added Grab Rails

Nice job. Looks good!
You had me going for a second. I was wondering why on earth anyone would put grab rails on the topsides of a boat. Some sort of safety device?
Turns out you really meant on...

You have to be kidding - right?

Faster is right - a 50 hp outboard would be ridiculous.

First off - it won't fit in the engine cutout in the transom, if you got it to fit somehow, the entire G-26 transom would break apart when...

G-26 is easier to single hand

From many years of experience - you won't have any problem single handing the Grampian, The J-24 would be pretty sensitive without crew.

The G-26 cockpit will sit 8 people (fairly comfortably I...

I use a BoomKicker with a vang directly below it.

Fastened all boom fittings with sheet metal screws (along with Locktite) They haven't come loose in 12 years of hard racing etc.

Strap would have worked better than slug.

I say this from experience. I switched to loose footed mainsails many years ago, and have always used the velcro strap to slide on the boom.
Did that on my Shark 24 as well.

I wouldn't buy any of them without a survey.

Just looking at the pictures illustrates a number of deficiencies with the two boats you are interested in..

Both seem quite a bit overpriced in today's market.

Have you checked this site?

Lots of great Grampians out there in the world.
A G-26 is roomier and faster than a C&C, nice size galley, private head, 6'1" headroom, sleeps 5 comfortably, etc. etc.
Here's a link - Model...
