Re: Observations From the 'Field'

Actually the Batelco maps are pretty accurate. We have had good coverage everywhere except:
1. The Land and Sea Park in the middle of the Exumas although the Wilson amp gave us some coverage in...

Observations From the 'Field'

Well into our second cruising season I felt it was time to pay back all the help we received from this forum by adding some of my observations on equipment options. I do not presume to be an expert...

Recommended yard in lower Long Island Sound?

Thanks for all the great support but MainSail did remotely what three yards had failed to do hands-on and find the actual problem. We are in good shape now so it's overnight in Port Washington the...

Help! Weird Alternator Problem

Not a single hint of a problem since we turned off the solar. Thanks MainSail! I need to set both chargers up more precisely for the new batteries so I will fix it then. Right now turning off is just...

Help! Weird Alternator Problem

OK it is not the belt. No change in rotation, no noise, no extra heat. It did only happen when the battery was nearly charged so I have turned off the solar and put some load on. I will monitor and...

Recommended yard in lower Long Island Sound?

I have an alternator problem that is making me nervous about transiting NYC. Can anyone recommend a yard in the sound around Port Washington or that general area?

Thanks

Help! Weird Alternator Problem

This has been an issue since I bought the boat and three yards have expensively failed to fix it. I have a Yanmar JH series engine with a large AMP alternator regulated by a Balmar Maxcharge MC-612...

Brad,
What are you using to voltage control the relay? I was thinking of doing this for the watermaker to make use of surplus solar power.

Thanks MS,
I was not quite clear. The fridge will be off the house bank but not through the main isolation switch. It will have its own isolation switch.

I'm definitely not thinking of extended...

Refrigerator off main breaker?

Thanks guys,
I am planning battery to 30amp fuse to 30amp+ switch to refrigerator compressor. The wiring is all oversized as the old fridge was a monster. New one is a Seafrost BDXP air/water.

Refrigerator off main breaker?

I am just installing a new fridge system. The old one is tied to the main breaker but I am considering going direct from the battery through its own breaker so we could leave it on with the rest of...

This has been our experience too

FarCry is spot on. We had work done in a 'lower rate' yard last winter. It was a disaster. It was badly done and took three times as long as it should so it cost us a fortune - for bad work.....

Re: US Supplier for Anchorman Power 700 parts?

Thanks Philip,
What I have discovered is that the parts I thought I needed (a bolt and a conical friction washer) are only required when you have a power-out function so I think I'm OK. I guess...

Re: Watertight blind bolts?

So - I decided to go for the brute force and masochism approach. I am slightly damaged but the davits are in!

Managed to stay disciplined enough not to rotate the bolts (very tempting) and mess up...

Re: Watertight blind bolts?

Thanks Manatee,
I had not come across these before, or at least I did not know what they were when I did..... I would still need to get the plate into place but that would be relatively easy. There...

Re: Watertight blind bolts?

Re: Watertight blind bolts?

thanks K,
I actually have a metal backing plate and the idea of mounting the nuts to it is a really good one. I'm sure I can find a way of putting the plate on some kind of pole.
