Re: How Old is Your Boat

My girl is from 1978; I'm just a bit older. ;)

I have always thought that the vibration of the larger (and often more numerous) engines added to the impact of crashing into every wave reduced...

Re: Mainsail graphic mystery

Looks like they're both set up for roller furling; maybe the main is on the jib furler?

Re: Bristol 29.9 coaming dimensions

I'm heading up to my boat this Thursday.

I've added 'measure coamings' to my To Do list.

Re: Missing Sailor Rescued

The marina manager said, "he didn't have the experience he needed to go out into the ocean".

I don't think the North Atlantic in late January is the best time to get that experience.

Re: West Marine 15A Battery Charger

The direct wire to the battery also meant that the OFF position on my battery switch was not as effective as it could have been.

Re: West Marine 15A Battery Charger

I found the electrical issue; it wasn't a slow drain.

My AC inverter has soiled the linen and draws 0.6A with the power switch firmly in the OFF position. The PO (or PPO) wired the unit directly...

Re: Bristol Yachts 50th Anniversery 2016

I just PM'd you my brother's info.

50 degrees today!

I got three batteries in my car; driving up to the boat after work.

Re: Bristol Yachts 50th Anniversery 2016

My brother says he's in!

That's a 1978 29.9 and a 1973 32 on their way.

Re: Best book to have for coastal sailing.

I've just started using the ActiveCaptain website.

I think it's great.

Re: Order of operations

I often worry that my foredeck crew will fall asleep during one of my leisurely approaches!

Re: Order of operations

I went from 18' at 1,500# to a 25 that was 4,500# and was convinced I'd bitten off too much until about the 3rd time I used it (to be fair, the first 2 trips were with a 5hp engine).

Then I went...

Re: Will 5 hp work on my 25 Catlina.

When I first launched my C25 three years ago, the 9.9 wasn't ready yet and I moved it about 4 miles with my son's 5hp Merc 2stroke.

I did it during slack tide and was glad I did. 'Nimble' and...

Re: Sailboat hits Power Line in Cocoa, Florida!

This is interesting.

I can imagine a well grounded boat going under without error.

I can imagine a poorly grounded boat going under quickly and the crew might notice that 'static charge'...

Re: Bristol Yachts 50th Anniversery 2016

I just saw this. My wife and I will try to make it with our 1978 29.9; I'll let my brother know, he has a 1973 B32.

Re: One-day sale on WestMarine paints

I saw this too late, but I'm fine.

My new gallon matches last year's; both have the "Stops Slime" red starburst.

Re: One-day sale on WestMarine paints

I missed the one day sale, but they have my paint (PCA Gold) on sale from 3/19-22 for $50 less ($150/gal). They also have Cetol quarts 'buy one, get two'.

So, for the $200 I have budgeted for...

Re: My case for Why you should ditch your engine on a daysailor

Back when I was learning, the boats rented out by Navy Recreational Services were engineless all the way up to the Rhodes 19. It was a great way to learn small boat handling and docking. When I had...

Re: Wanted: The Worlds Greatest Sails.

I'm sure they are. Doesn't threading a course through that look like fun?

My favorite buoy colors? Sky blue with white accents. It makes them so easy to see!

Re: Bimini--where to buy

Sometimes, sometimes not.

I've seen companies (Taylor?) that offer pre-made biminis with different widths, lengths, height and number of ribs. A dodger is almost always custom (but many companies...

Re: Do you make guests wear PFDs?

My safety briefing starts with, "Drowning remains the number one cause of boating fatalities..." when I get to "alcohol is often a factor" there is usually someone I can give the 'stink eye' to. ;)

Re: Winter cover fails

I checked on mine after the first blizzard (early January), not much snow on top and no signs of stress on the stanchions. I'll check it again after this next one.

The PO made a frame out of 1"...
