Re: 1989 Hunter 40 - A million questions.

You want that outboard to run well? Start saying out loud how you are going to replace it and look up prices. It will then start running well until a month goes by and you forget and it quits on you...

Real Cruisers verse Internet Arguers

Don't some ever get tired of the same bah bah bah "discussions" of the small fraction of "blue water" danger sailing? Doesn't it seem that any cruiser sailing around doing day hops or 1-2 passage...

Re: Production Boats and the Limits

Is there really any point of going around and finding pictures of boats with a problem, but not giving the details of age and damage details? The only thing this shows is boats break.

Re: My Attitude Sucks

Yeah, I mentioned my plan to the marina Dockmaster and she responded "you want a job driving the launch next year". That may be more job responsibility than I want.

Re: US Navy going to teach celestial navigation

Let me tell you a true story:

I was servicing on a US nuclear submarine in about 1985. We were part of a NATO exercise and were suppose to be the bad guy and attack the fleet as it made its' way...

Re: Folding prop

I think you now have asked if it would be OK to use 3 different wrong props. Are you really willing to consider using a wrong prop to save a few dollars? I wouldn't consider the money saved on a...

Re: Big Freakin' Sails

Why can't people just be happy to sail and to hear that others are sailing? Why does everything have to be a pissing battle over petty crap just because it is different from how they do it etc.!

Re: What type of boat is this?

It doesn't matter what type (make) of boat it is. KNowing will make no difference in tracking down parts.

But you still have time ........................... to run away!

Re: How to know for certain whether marinas actually *do* or don't want liveaboards?

Re: Retiring soon...

Wonder how many here have just become insulted

Some of us are partially disabled, older, and FAT and we can still handle a 40-50' boat. It's just a boat not marathon with a weight lifting...

Re: Retiring soon...

Good luck and have fun!

BTW - The actual sailing part of the plan is easy to learn, don't let people try to convince otherwise. You can learn the sailing just as well living on the boat in a nice...

Re: Good Small Boat for Older, Fatter Woman to learn on

Hell you don't even begin to have an "qualifying" boat related issue. I hate hearing whining from skinny athletic kids.

Re: Lifespan of a Diesel Engine

My manual says it is Ok to idle the engine, just every couple of hours to rev it up to 3000 rpm a couple of times.

I get the feeling that not many people ever read their manuals and instead follow...

I go around the Cape and never do the Annisquam. Far as stops I've made along the way:

Isle of Shoals
Kittery Point

Leaving from Salem Isle of Shoals is the best mid point stop....

- joined a local sailing club at a 33' boat level
- sailed each weekend for 3 months
- bought a 39' boat and sailed it for 2...

NE Riggers will come to your marina.

Far as sails I've been using Doyle Sail in Salem. There a few sail lofts in Salem/Marblehead.

Re: Need advice on choosing a Boat

My thoughts are that buying a smaller boat with a planned update is just throwing money away. BTW - a 29' boat is still just a small boat/

Re: Boat Loan

I've gotten 2 15 year term boat loans the past 6 years. 1 was from Essex on a $72k boat and current is with Suntrust on a $115k boat. Both were with 20% down and during the recession.
