Re: Vagabond and Westwind Sailboats

I'd love to know how this is progressing. I'm likely going to have to dive into this project soon on our new-to-us V42.

Were the gaps between the squares of plywood core filled with resin? Or...

Re: Vagabond and Westwind Sailboats

Hey there, I'd love to know if you tackled the aft head. At 6'3" 200lbs, that is something I was looking at when we surveyed the Vagabond 42. We were trying to find something with a separate shower...

Re: ?Liveaboard marina near Ft. Lauderdale or Miami

If you are willing to go a bit farther north Cape Marina in Port Canaveral has all of those amenities you are after. We stayed there for 7 months while on the hard in their DIY yard. They also have a...

Re: Sail repair for Newbie

I really like my "The Sailmaker's Apprentice" book. While they do go a little more in depth than you will likely need, there are sections on sail repair that I found very helpful for my own repairs....

Re: A Marine Fabrics & sewing forum?

They have a few lines of interior stuff that is quite comfortable. It's what we ended up getting. It's indoor/outdoor fabric as opposed to the stiff stuff you use for biminis and the like. You can...

Re: Young cruisers

I'm 29 and my boyfriend is 31. We both quit our jobs back in NYC last November to sail. How we've done is we SAVED. Every penny we had we saved in order to take an extended sabbatical. We're young so...

Re: A Marine Fabrics & sewing forum?

In terms of getting fabric Fabric.com and FabricGuru.com are great. They stock overruns so you can get a really great deal. We ended up getting a really nice sunbrella for our inside cushions for...

Re: For those that moved from land to sea

It had been my boyfriend's plan for a couple of years - even before we started dating - to leave his professional NYC (sales) life behind and move to South America. I decided that I was coming along...

Re: Spotless Stainless/Some Products Just Work!

We've been using it on our rigging and deck hardware as well. Make sure to not let it dry. If you do it gets chalky and the stuff looks worse for the wear about a day or so after you rinse it off....

Re: Seafarer 24 swing keel, keel pivot? Sailing qualities?

We have a Seafarer 34 with a swing keel. We just finished fixing up our keel a couple of weeks ago as it had become quite pitted: Swingin' Sailing Chance | Sailing through the Caribbean | Sailing...

Re: Teach a girl to use the big boy tools and look what she can do

I forgot to mention in my original post, we still have to add bungs, route the corner edges, and add vents to the cut outs for the freezer. Also the bulkhead separating the stove and the left cubbie...

Re: Teach a girl to use the big boy tools and look what she can do

Thank you all - It was a lot of hard work, but I'm really happy with how it turned out. In just a few days we'll be done with all this boat yard crap and start sailing again!

Teach a girl to use the big boy tools and look what she can do

So my boyfriend taught me how to use a few power tools and we decided to redesign the galley in our 1974 34' seafarer. I'm pretty pumped at how well it turned out and had to share. More detailed pics...

Re: Looking for 1/4-20 stainless slotted tee bolt (sex bolt)

We bought all our ss bolts, nuts, washers, etc from Amazon. They have WAY better prices than Home Depot, Ace, or our marina. Add in our prime shipping and they were here in 2 days. Can't be beat.

We're currently at Cape Marina in Port Canaveral. The staff is great and they have a great DIY yard should you need to haul out. They have great staff and great facilities. Only downside is their...

Re: Topsides going from 'White' to flag blue

I made a mistake in my last post. We used Flag Blue PERFECTION, not brightsides. Anyhow, we finished the boot stripe yesterday and are pretty happy with our results. We painted at Cape Marina in...

Re: West Marine no longer matching prices...

We had a WM employee try to argue with us as to why this was better for the customer - it was quite humorous actually. Unfortunately he had to deal with my boyfriend who likes to argue for the hell...

Re: Topsides going from 'White' to flag blue

We're actually in the middle of this exact task right now! First, we decided to lighten ours just a tad using the white Brightsides we had for our deck. We've been roll and tipping with another...

Re: Good prices on Sunbrella?

I definitely used UV resistant thread. Not just because of the FL sun, but we'll be sailing in the Caribbean semi-permanently and I didn't want to chance it!

It's actually not on the boat yet...

Re: Looking for a home in NYC

When we were in NY we had a slip at DiMeglio's in Brooklyn. A bit of a hike to the subway from there, but bikeable.

Re: Good prices on Sunbrella?

We bought "Sunbrella-like" material on Ebay and have been happy with the quality so far. Search "Marine One Outdoor Fabric" and you'll see it comes in a bunch of colors. The seller I bought it from...
