Re: Would you work 1 additional year to go from $50k to $150k boat

Have you actually done any boat hunting? Could be just the boat, at just your price is out there right now (they ain't gonna get any cheaper). If ya can't find what ya want, keep working until you do.

Re: Is flying a pirate flag lame?

The funny part about this thread is that anyone would worry about what someone else thinks about something so trivial.

Re: Journey or the Destination

Without a destination, there is no journey. Both have pluses and minuses, so why worry about which you "enjoy" more, just enjoy.

Re: East Coast Marinas - need no frills just less expensive?

Go a bit past Oriental to New Bern, 'bout as cheap of rates as you'll find, with a number of marina's to choose from.

Re: How poor is the average liveaboard cruiser?

Poor in dollars, rich in life. Suits me just fine.

Re: Mark 19 by Ontario Yachts

Yep, my bad, Adriaanse was no longer with C&C when he did the 28.

Re: Mark 19 by Ontario Yachts

At the end of the first paragraph, click on the name (e-mail link) and see if he can (if he's still active) help you: Copyright & Disclaimer - Used Sailboat Market in Canada...

Re: Best Coastal Cruiser under 37 ft

I'm not sure what you mean by a "better boat". What is it your Catalina is lacking, that you want something else? Is there something about a different boat that would enhance your time on the water?...

Re: Wilmington NC area marina/yacht club

You've got a number of different ways to go in that area, though I'm not really familiar with the marinas.

I would look at Wrightsville Beach first. Good inlet out to open water.

Southport is...

Re: Liveaborders that never leave the slip? I don't get it. Help!

If public, then yes. If private, then no.

It should be noted though, that the existence of a problem does not guarantee the existence of an acceptable solution.

Re: Liveaborders that never leave the slip? I don't get it. Help!

I think zee made a very relevant point. For a liveaboard, it's more than a boat, it's home.

Re: Liveaborders that never leave the slip? I don't get it. Help!

There can be many reasons for not leaving the dock. From works in progress to just not finding it worth the effort for a small return of enjoyment. Everyone has different priorities in their lives...

Re: Overwhelmed and Anxious/New

I can't really give you an informed opinion on that, as I don't have any real experience with either the class or the IP. What I can tell you is that despite 3 summers of sailing on lakes (a 26...

Re: Overwhelmed and Anxious/New

You should also be looking into a place to berth it, and what that will add to your budget, as there aren't many choices (basically Seward, Whittier, and Valdez by road access). As you're in the...

Re: 2000hunter 310

I would take the 320 (almost bought one) over the 310, the 320 being basically a more refined model.

Re: Pearons 28 passes Beneteau 46

Actually, I was referring to anything less than maximum trim, which seems to be the standard everyone is to perform to, or only be "half-assed crappy" sailors.

Re: Pearons 28 passes Beneteau 46

I can sail my boat to it's potential at any time I want. Often though, I'm content to just "half-ass, crappily" sail it. I do not raise my sails to compete with anyone, or anyone's perceptions, I...

Re: Pearons 28 passes Beneteau 46

It seems that periodically, there is always a "You're not a real sailor" thread. Always something that offends the delicate sensibilities of "real" sailors. Always transgressions from the "true...

Re: Pearons 28 passes Beneteau 46

If I'm just sailing to be sailing (as opposed to reaching a destination) I often don't worry about "maximizing" my efficiency. Sometimes it's just enough to be moving and the sails not flapping....

Re: What mistakes have you made whilst anchoring?

That sounds like the anchorage where the Little R joins the ICW just north of Myrtle Beach.

Re: What mistakes have you made whilst anchoring?

Trying to anchor at St Augustine once, I was having problems getting a good set. Finally though, I got one. One problem though, I didn't notice I had drifted too close to shallow water. I spent a...

Re: Sailing in Near Gale Conditions

I find it a lot easier to shed clothes, than to have to get them and put them on when they prove necessary.
