Re: Something to hold tiller in place

Just tried the "Cajun tiller tamer" today. Light to moderate winds just around 10 kts. Also worked for holding course while using the outboard allowing you to put things in order on returning to...

Re: Tohatsu 4,5,6 HP Tiller Lock Fix

That's not a hard one to solve....I made an extended shift lever out of a wooden dowel, actually used a sawed off pool cue. Drilled a 1/4" hole, one inch from the end and slipped a 1/4" S&S hex bolt...

Re: hello from florida

When you get comfortable on the sunfish try sailing it while standing up!..
Used to do that...it's a blast. You need a fresh breeze, 15 +.... I would shift my weight, put the port gunwale in the...

Re: Brand new Honda 5HP Outboard won't start - should I switch mfg?

Did you check for an air leak? See if the carb is tight....could be a bad gasket... When an engine needs to be choked to continue running, it may indicate an air leak...after warming up and...

Re: Creepy sailing stories?

The Leonid meteor shower occurs each November, about mid month. Every so often they produce a meteor storm. I was watching the one we are speaking of, a storm, in the early morning about 5:00am til...

Re: Sail boat crashes and starts sinking after hitting a bridge!

Why do you say that? I sail into my slip as often as I can. Usually better than motoring in when the ob dies at the worst time....

Re: Maintaining an outboard

To clarify, depending on how you read that.... I am not having any starting problems or restarting problems this year, even though not running my carb dry. And again. Achieved good results last year...

Re: Maintaining an outboard

Yes it would...but I think the issue is residue left after fuel evaporates. While fuel left in the bowl with stabilizer may not leave those deposits. I'm not claiming to be an expert...only sharing...

Re: Maintaining an outboard

I'm using a Mercury, 6hp, 4 stroke with an external tank. I use valvtec ethanol treatment in the tank. My mechanic said NOT to run engine dry. He advised that would encourage evaporation within the...

Re: What the heck is this?

Could it be a regulator for a solar charger? The meter could refer to a state of charge....

Re: Weird weird july weather.....

Hey...I agree...been seeing a lot of days with winds over 16kts. Since I often sail solo, I too prefer lighter wind with less chop. The chop has been so prevalent that when I've gone out, I choose to...

Re: Santana 22 (1974) rudder bolts

Nick....not sure how that would be a factor since fabricating a new block should account for those dimensions. Alternately, why not consider fabricating the replacement halves out of aluminum stock?...

Re: Santana 22 (1974) rudder bolts

Why don't you just do it in two pieces? Split right down the middle, like two "Cs" around the post until you can take it out of the water and replace with a one piece block. It looks like removing...
