Re: C&C 29 - Mark 1 vs 2

According to the PHRF rating sheets I have C&C 27's have ratings of 174 to 201 depending while 29's have ratings of 171 to 183 depending.

I'd say the sailor is going to make more difference than...

Re: Mixing teak and mahogany: how ugly?

I've done that too - BIG self tapping screws, like #12 or #14. The only handrails I've ever had come adrift were bolted.

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

I like the platform for the pump & switch - what was the thinking behind having it elevated above the low point?

Re: Boat sank at the dock

The very experienced guy that got me interested in sailing had a routine for a freshly launched boat - he slept on board on a settee the first night with one foot on the cabin sole. :)

Re: What boat for a 10-15 year trip?

From the attitude displayed by the OP, I think he should go to Florida and buy a wood Sea Witch. ;)

Re: Blocks, Sheaves and Pulleys: Did I screw up???

20 Kilos is roughly equal to a sack of cement - sure a guy should be able to do it with one hand but it ain't exactly a featherweight.

also, there's an old sailors curse that seems apropos -...

Re: Rawson 30- A Blue Water Cruiser?

The Rawson has an SA/D of less than 13 - you don't want to do anything to reduce that any further.

Re: Synthetic Motor Oil for my Diesel?

Then perhaps you can explain why engines that run nearly continuously, only stopping for maintenance, have lifespans several times those that are started and stopped as usual?

A coating of oil is...

Re: Synthetic Motor Oil for my Diesel?

Re: Synthetic Motor Oil for my Diesel?

Very interesting report but I have a problem with one of the basic premises in it.

Oil filters typically operate in the 40- to 80-micron range

That would be an extremely poor filter - if you...
