Re: Westerbeke 30B Bad Fuel?

Definitely.
Do not run the engine again without at least draining the water out of the water separator, and changing the filters. Clean your tank. If you haven't already checked a recent post "How...

Re: Yanmar 2GM starting issue (sort of)

Clean all of your cable terminals both positive and negative, at the battery and at the engine. If the problem persists check your battery. The best way to do this is to buy a cheap battery load...

Re: Beta 25 Maintenance Parts

Thanks for everyone's help. So far I found a service manual for tractor engine externals. That manual did not delve into hard parts. The Beta cross reference was a good start.

Re: False temp alarm does not go out after start up

Disconnect the wire at the sender. If the light goes off it's your sender. If the light stays on its in the wiring.

Re: Howes Lubricator/Diesel treatment questions

My father is a retired diesel mechanic. He always told me not to use any additives for anything, they cause more problems than they solve, there is a mouse trap for everyone. While the previous...

Beta 25 Maintenance Parts

I re-powered with a Beta 25 for this season. This engine is based on a Kubota Model D902-ET01. When I do a search on the internet for the Kubota parts for this engine I don't get any good results....

Re: Using Bottom Paint on Brass Propeller

Item 1&2, that is the consensus.
Item 3, bronze through halls, you need to strip all paint off the through hall and the area 6 to 12 inches around it, paint that with epoxy paint. The epoxy isolates...

Re: Using Bottom Paint on Brass Propeller

I was talking to an old timer at my local Marine Supply house, he said a lot of people use bottom paint on their bronze props, and he added that he hasn't seen very many and certainly not enough...

Re: Using Bottom Paint on Brass Propeller

Main Sail, thanks, great post.
Bronze has zinc in it, wow, that explains the electrolysis concerns.
Scary bunch of pictures, internal damage. I will change my ways, hope it is not to late.
You...

Re: Using Bottom Paint on Brass Propeller

Faster, Thanks

I appreciate the correction it's a bronze prop. If I am reading the chart correctly copper is on the Anodic side of the two bronzes shown. Copper would then be the sacrificial metal...

Re: Using Bottom Paint on Brass Propeller

Color is brassy, I thought bronze has a bronze hue. Are all props bronze?

Using Bottom Paint on Brass Propeller

Just polished up my brass propeller after 15 years of using ablative bottom paint on it. It polished up real nice, no corrosion damage. I was told I should use some fancy stuff ranging in price. It...

Re: Ground wire question

I agree with arf145. The engine ground is probably thicker than a pencil, usually close buy the starter.

There is also a possibility that the wire cracked as a result of engine vibrations. Look...

Re: Beta vs. Universal vs. Westerbeak Engines

Correction noted and made.

Thanks to all who posted here.

At this point I am leaning towards the Beta 25 (25HP), the smaller block is a better fit and more powerful than the smaller Universal...

Beta vs. Universal vs. Westerbeak Engines

I was looking at the Beta and Universal engines at 25HP. Both are based on the Kubota engines. I don't know about Westerbeak, i just noticed it is available.

Beta Marine has 2 at 25HP
Beta 25 -...

Re: Yanmar 2gm2f no start after fueling

Good idea to have spare filters on the boat. I change mine every year. Since this happened while you were fueling there are 2 possibilities:
1. You just ran out of fuel
2. Your fuel got...

Re: Yanmar 2gm2f no start after fueling

You realize that a solar charged does not do much for charging overnight. It would help if you could get a full charge with an automatic charger overnight. A fast cranking speed is also important on...

Re: Yanmar 2gm2f no start after fueling

An air leak can develop for various reasons, crack at welded hose connection, dried out cracked rubber hose, etc. However I am guessing that you don't have an air leak. It is very common to end up...

Re: Yanmar 2gm2f no start after fueling

Where is the manual pump? I didn't think that engine had one, my doesn't. As I said before you need to determine that you are getting fuel from the tank. If you are not getting fuel all other efforts...

Re: Yanmar 2gm2f no start after fueling

You need to start doing some tests that will positively identify the location of your problem. If this was me I would take the low tech approach. I sort of remember that you changed both fuel...

Re: Yanmar 2GM20F

Yep, that's what I did, and added a cross member to sit on so I could raise the engine off the engine mounting bolts while I was hoisting it up from the boom. Made friends with the rigger at the...

Re: Yanmar 2GM20F

Jut pulled the engine out myself yesterday. It's in the back of my pickup now. I am not sure it's worth it for me to take on the rebuild. I promised my wife that I would renovate the bathroom this...
