Re: Would you work 1 additional year to go from $50k to $150k boat

If I was going to be happy with the boat that I could buy without working the extra year (knowing that every boat is a compromise), I would definitely just leave. None of us have any idea how long...

Rebel Heart Lawsuit Dismissed

Looks like the Rebel Heart lawsuit was dismissed for lack of jurisdiction. Their attorney claims it will be refiled in Florida. Give me a break.

Re: Never been in a slip

We are in the same "boat" so to speak in that we've owned our boat for two seasons, we're on a mooring, and we've only been to the T-dock a few times each season to get more water (we have a Nature's...

Re: Small cooler for weekending

It doesn't have wheels, and it is heavy, but our Yeti cooler is indestructible and keeps ice better than any other cooler we've owned. It's expensive, but for us it was definitely worth it.

Re: I had to cut away my anchor :(

We have something that looks like this on our Bristol 24. The anchor hasn't fallen off yet (nor have we used it), but the PO had a bungee around it (presumably for added security) which we've kept on...

Re: boat for tall sailor

Jon,

Do you feel that interior headroom is overrated for a long-term cruising sailboat? I'm curious because my husband is 6'4" and we have plans upon retirement to become full-time cruisers. ...

Re: Bermuda jumping off point

Different strokes, I guess. We absolutely love Bermuda - we've been there three times for a land vacation. The people, the beauty, the "feel" of it is simply wonderful. When we dream about our future...

Re: Air Head Composting Toilet or Similar Mfg.

I wouldn't worry about the longer hose. We installed a Nature's Head a few weeks ago and vented to the pump out. In our case, between the twists and turns, it was almost 24 feet of hose. The air is...

Re: $3000/mo cruising budget

I wasn't trying to make a distinction between a cruising budget and a retirement liveaboard budget. For us, retirement will mean full time cruising but we'll return to land when we're ready, not...

Re: $3000/mo cruising budget

I've read all of this thread and the $500/month thread with interest. Although we don't have the big boat yet and we're not heading out for another ten years, I already know that we will fall...

Re: Air Head Composting Toilet

There may not be posts on this thread specifically, but when we were researching whether to buy one I read literally hundreds of posts on this forum and others, in addition to various blogs and other...

Re: Headed for LI Sound and Beyond

Wow! That would have been amazing to see those boats sailing by. I hope we're as lucky when we hit Newport in a few weeks.

Re: Primer Bulb kink

I agree with Minnewaska. We have bought two OCD hoses and bulbs in the past season (don't ask) and neither one of them were kinked like that. However, we've had enough outboard trouble that I...

Re: Headed for LI Sound and Beyond

I'm enjoying reading your trip report. We thought West Harbor was beautiful, but I'm not sure how much sleep you'll get if the winds are from the NE.

Either way, enjoy and I'll continue to live...

Re: Rust stains on non-skid

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. On the boat now but the Barkeepers Friend is at home. I'll give it a try next weekend and if it doesn't work I'll make a trip to Defender.

Rust stains on non-skid

We have some rust stains on the non-skid near our bow. Any tips for removing them? Mr. Clean magic eraser and Clorox cleanup haven't worked.

Thanks.

Re: Two weeks in Block/Narragansett Bay

Thank you for sharing your anchoring technique, Minnewaska. We will be committing that to memory. I had read that Danforths don't do well when the wind shifts, but I didn't know how much of a wind...

Re: Two weeks in Block/Narragansett Bay

These suggestions are all great - thank you everyone!

We stopped at Defender on the way to the boat yesterday to get a Danforth 12# hi-tensile anchor, chain, and line. We'd prefer a new gen but we...

Re: Two weeks in Block/Narragansett Bay

Jim,

It crossed my mind yesterday that with an overnight anchor we could stop at Pt. Judith instead of heading back to Block. Thanks for the tip on the inner harbor. It sounds much nicer than...

Re: Two weeks in Block/Narragansett Bay

Thanks everyone for the restaurant suggestions.

As for the anchor, we are now rethinking our plans to hold off on buying an overnight anchor until the offseason. I have to admit, in researching...

Two weeks in Block/Narragansett Bay

We are getting very excited about our upcoming two-week cruise. Five weeks and two days to go, but who's counting?

This is our second year with the boat (third year sailing) and last year we went...

Re: Newport area during the boat show

Thanks everyone. At this point I think we're going to skip the show. We're having a difficult time fitting it in without feeling like we're on a schedule. We've been to the one in Newport before...

Re: Flat Fenders?

From almost all of the replies it sounds like these aren't the proper application for us. Guess it's back to squeezing the round ones in the lazarette.
