Re: Good window glass shop in Vancouver area or NW Washington?

You might try Tempaglass in North Van. They did some custom work for me a few years ago. Dont know if they are still around

Re: W D Schock called me a freeloader for asking for info about my boat

What an incredibly short sighted and poor business attitude. I guess you dont want repeat customers. Any idea how much it costs you to get a new customer versus retaining an old one?
Unfortunately...

Re: Boomkicker and winter storage

What?? If he takes the boom off as you recommend and stores it below why would he put a tarp over the boom? What does that accomplish?

Re: Last one for tonight. Tiller pilots

Same boat and autopilot and agree completely. I am actually surprised at how well it handles most conditions because I think the ST1000 is undersized based on fully loaded cruising weight.

Re: Biscuits on board

Many years ago in scouts we used a box lined with tinfoil turned upside down to sit on a baking sheet set on top of the heat source. You can get the temperature up to probably 400F. You can even make...

Re: Give AIS a rest

When it comes to collision avoidance my father used to say there is right and then there is dead right. It doesnt matter if you have the right of way if you end up dead. Take action to avoid a...

Re: Asymmetrical Color

Dye sublimation printing will work extremely well on polyester. You cant scratch or bleach this out so be sure you get your design right. There are lots of places that can do this for you or...

Re: B.C.'s Eric Holden skippers winning Clipper Race yacht

Some amazing footage on youtube as well. I saw an interview with the founder a couple of days ago and his inspiration was tourist climbing Mt. Everest. He thought he could provide a comparable...

Re: Etiquette for boat sale

First you say you told them you would accept their offer then in your second post you say they called back to discuss $22k and there was no deal. Which one was it? Did you accept an offer that didnt...

Re: First overnight anchor ..

Glad to hear it worked out but in my mind heading to such shallow water was a huge mistake that risks smashing your hull to pieces on the rocks if the wind turned to blow you towards the beach. I'd...

Re: First overnight anchor ..

Why would you move into shallow water? When a storm is coming isnt it normal to move into deeper water?

Re: Sledgehammer saga continues

Certainly not the course I would pursue but free advice is worth what you pay for it (mine included). This means no sailing for quite a while but still having 100% of the expenses like storage fees...

Re: Sorry, balsa cored hull questions

Tackled a foam cored hull earlier this year. Cut out about 2 sq ft of hull and foam core. Used polyester resin to fill then glassed over and finished with a couple coats of epoxy. It was way easier...

Re: How much of your storage is devoted to tools and parts?

Shocking to see the poll results and so many with 20-40% of their space being used (wasted?) carrying tools and spare parts. I guess it depends how you use your boat but coastal cruising should...

Re: Beaufort South Carolina no longer a free anchor

Really? Moorings are typically paid for. Why would you expect someone to pay good money to be in the location you dont want for free?

Re: Beaufort South Carolina no longer a free anchor

Given it has no effect on your ability to use the waterway or anchor nearby I dont understand your issue. So a transient boat may or may not use a mooring - big deal. How does this effect you or...

Re: Beaufort South Carolina no longer a free anchor

Most people realize compromises are often necessary to balance competing uses and make the best use of public resources for everyone. I cant see cant how adding a mooring field has any effect on your...

Re: 10K$ boat --- Are Insurance and Survey REALLY mandatory?

In my experience the ones who dont have insurance are the ones with limited to no ability to be responsible for themselves and their actions when the crap hits the fan.

Re: Steering Improvements?

Yes you can get rid of that setup and simply lock your engine in place and steer with just your rudder. I see no advantage to this setup other than possibly a smaller turning radius under power. On...
