Re: Is the Newport 27' a suitable liveaboard for a small family?

Buy the boat you are going to use in the present. A Newport 27 might be perfect for your needs.

When you have a four year old you might decide on a decommissioned USN Destroyer or bigger as a...

Re: My teenage design efforts

I don't get over to your blog often enough. It's always a great read.

Ten at $3.50 is $35.00. I'll take my one and only chance to correct Bob Perry on anything even remotely related to boats.

Re: Looking to purchase a hunter - First sailboat

I chartered a 29.5 in Thailand. Very roomy and comfortable layout. I would not call it forgiving. The fractional rig does help but learn to reef the main in all kinds of conditions.

I can't...

Re: Almost sank my boat... Prop Shaft - backup retainer?

Thanks for that info. Very helpful.

Any reason why I can't loosen the clamps and spin the bellows 180 degrees so I can inspect the lower side? I was not the owner when the unit was installed so I...

Re: Almost sank my boat... Prop Shaft - backup retainer?

Re: Picking up a mooring single handed

I have a pick stick, even in adverse conditions it seems to work well.

Even in heavy air I motor up to the pick up stick, then walk forward and grab it.

I have a 4 ft lead from the pick up...

Re: How are sales handled on the Classifieds

I sell loads of stuff on ebay/craigs. Sort of a hobby that pays a little bit.

Cash only on craigslist. I generally list only boat related stuff because of my local, or things too big to ship. ...

Re: BoatBound?

I would disagree. I'm on my boat 2 days/3 nights, mid-week, EVERY week May - Nov. Weekends are open 90% of the time. I've been at the same yard since 2001 and people there think my boat never...

Update: I emailed them again. Nothing.

I have had to tell a total of five prospective customers "no" due to boatbounds failure to follow through.

What a waste of time.

I am getting more...

So far it all seems easy, until it comes time for them to supply a surveyor. My boat is just over 25 yrs old and the last survey was 3 years ago. According to their own rules someone should be...

Anchoring under sail

As someone else pointed out, try leaving the mainsheet loose as you coast to a stop to drop the hook.

Re: Daytime anchor ball

A vessel under 12 meters is not required to display the "motor sail marker". I have yet to see anyone use one that is not required.

Heck, I don't recall seeing the black ball being displayed by...
