Hey,

Things I like:
GPS - I use it to display the speed so I don't go too fast in my dink on my way to my boat. The speed limit in the...

Re: Taking my Precision 23 to the KEYS!

Every Christmas week, we used to trailer our F-27GS trimaran down to the Keys. We'd only have about a week, and this is what we'd do. I don't know what you draw, so this advice might not be any good....

Re: Taking my Precision 23 to the KEYS!

You are a lucky man, you're gonna have a blast... :-)

Good advice from Gary, but one recommendation I'd make... On your way down there, don't dismiss spending some time in the Upper Keys, as...

Re: Taking my Precision 23 to the KEYS!

It pretty much depends upon how far you want to venture in a single day. It's a bit over 22 miles out to the marquesses Keys, so it's a good day sail, with an overnighter inside Mooney Harbor. The...

Re: Taking my Precision 23 to the KEYS!

Snorkeling in Marathon is somewhat limited to Sombrero Reef light area, visibility about 30 feet on most days. Much better at Sand Key near Key West, about 50 feet on average. Much better at Cosgrove...

Re: Florida Keys, Best Anti-Fouling

Angel hair is a form of filamentous algae, very common in Boot Key Harbor due to higher than normal nutrient levels. Grows mainly from the waterline down to about 2 feet and is easily scrubbed off...

Re: Florida Keys, Best Anti-Fouling

I've had good results using Ameron ABC 3. It's a commercial ablative paint and usually runs $100-$125 a gallon.

Re: Florida Keys, Best Anti-Fouling

I wipe the slime off with a rag and trim the angel hair beard at the waterline 3-4 times a year.

Re: Florida Keys, Best Anti-Fouling

Your boat is going to be in the toughest area on
Bottom paint in Marithon. For hard paint I would
go with Trinidad SR and for Ablative go with Micron 66.

Re: TV antennas

No TV stations in the keys that I know of. Everyone down there is either on cable or satellite. Lots of free WI-FI though, so you can find pretty much anything you wish to watch on the PC and if you...

Re: TV antennas

I just spent 18 days cruising from Tampa to Marathon and then down to Key West and back. You can forget all about TV reception down there. Well, except for one Spanish paid programing station.........

Re: Heading South?

For many, including me, it's not an insurance issue - it's bugs. Lots of bugs along the ICW, noseeums, skeeters, gnats, black flies, you name it, they're out there awaiting your flesh to arrive....

Re: Avoid "diegoscustommarine" on eBay for custom canvas

That's for sure. It's a major PITA to try to screen out unwanted scripts but I find that after a while, the names of tracking scripts become familiar and you can put them on the blacklist. Most sites...
