I would start with a drawing of your boat from the top down.. so you can see the space you have to deal with. Then I would look at the interior of boats you like... and see how you can work those...

I look at it this way: Cape Dorys always seem to command a price premium over similar boats. It might be because of the name, but I am also sure it is due to how ruggad they are.
