Re: Boat Shoes

Today's Topsiders will kill you. I think they're made for washing cars. Rubber sole hard as a rock, no grip on wet deck, or even a dry one.

I think the only answer is to look for some appropriate...

Re: New Fastnet '79 Docu on ESPN

Pretty much everything said about Turner is true, he is simultaneously Donald Trump, Rocky Balboa and St. Augustine.

But he was also fun to be around. Loyal, in his way. Tolerant, a rare quality...

Re: Make Cushions Without Sewing

Making cushions by hand is a bear.

However, now's a good time to get that sewing machine-- since if you ever do, you'll regret not having it for this project.

Here's more than you ever wanted...

One-Piece Hatch Board

The one-piece plywood hatch board, replacing four pieces of teak, is a big improvement. But it might be even better in plastic. You just need a handy place to put it. If it fits in the seat locker,...

Re: Would it be feasible to put a sail on this boat

what would constitute a dinghy ? that sounds small ,and would it be something I'd have to switch sides on and duck the sail ?

Re: Installation report: Balmar 100a Alternator on M25

My procedures are fairly standard for the stated needs. Let me explain again.

I use 20 amp hours a day offshore. The point of the larger alternator is to quickly regain the 20 amps.

I run...

Re: Installation report: Balmar 100a Alternator on M25

The point is to recharge the battery quickly, daily. The Balmar puts out about 80 initial amps when the battery is discharged to 60 percent. It returns the battery to 80 percent charge in 35-40...

Re: Singlehanded LA to Kaua'i and Return

Hmmm. The McPartland track came from a recording I made of the Pandora channel "Marian McPartland." I was reduced to guessing it was she. But you're right, it's really not quite her style, or at...

Re: Singlehanded LA to Kaua'i and Return

I use Canon HV40s as the main camera. They use miniDV tape and are essentially obsolete, but the quality is very good and the editing easy and you always have the tape as a backup. I use a "wide...

Re: hardwood plywood source

Groundhog, have you checked with Chesapeake Light Craft? They sell a lot of ply, might be able to work something out. And they're in town.

Re: wind vanes and LOA

The 2014 model, new from Stellan Knoos, is $5K, plus the drum and blocks and line, which adds a few more hundred. I'll be selling mine for $3900 when I get around to it.

The design looks right on...

Re: The Hard Dinghy as Sailboat, Tender and Lifeboat
