Do not be afraid to pay 4 times as much for a water resistant corrosion resistant potentiometer. Also mount it as far away from water as you can. Any oxidation is "BAD" for potentiometers.

strips of lexan pre-bent like ribs (Heat) might be a lot better than aluminum. Yow could chemically bond the lexan to the fiberglass.

my mind works slow. Drop the keel, check the bilge for rot cracks ect. , grind out all the wet glass near the crack, then you have a good Idea of what you need to do to repair the boat.

I am no expert but, drop the keel and rebuild it before you loose it. That leaves my guts twisted in knots. I see the keel falling off and the boat turning turtle.
