Re: Labor Day Weekend?

Still hoping to get to Still Pond Saturday, at least for a few hours. Biggest concern for staying overnight is muggy forecast. My wife hates sleeping in muggy conditions. We'll have to see how long...

Re: Labor Day Weekend?

Yes, we have reservations at BBYH for Friday through Monday, but they've been told we may be elsewhere on Saturday night. We've stayed there twice before, and it's a nice stopping off point for us....

Re: Labor Day Weekend?

Oops, I misinterpreted your post. From that other thread it sounds like you'll enter the canal Saturday, a day after I plan to. I'm stopping in Bohemia Friday to meet up with Lori, and heading...

Re: Labor Day Weekend?

I'll look for you. Sounds like I'll enter the canal an hour or so before you, but I'll be fighting the current for an hour or so. You may pass me at some point due to greater hull speed.

Re: Labor Day Weekend?

We're hoping to do a mini-cruise over Labor Day weekend. The tentative plan is for me to single-hand from Essington to Bohemia River Friday, my wife drives down for cruising Sat-Sun (Sat night...

Re: Chesapeake Bay Eats

I want to put in another recommendation for The Kitchen in Rock Hall. When we were at Rock Hall Landing for 3 days in late June, everyone was raving about the place. We tried it out, and it is fine...

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

I'd appreciate some advice on getting into Still Pond for a first-timer, and also where to anchor in various wind conditions.

Is Still Pond Creek beyond the dredged channel accessible for a...

Re: Sailing Schools - certificated coures or 'a la carte'???

You're changing your story here. This is what I was responding to before:

So you've gone from claiming that there are lots of people who are skilled circumnavigators who can't get insurance (an...

Re: Primer Bulb kink

Easy to fix. Just buy a pair of removable fittings - male to go into the tank, and female to go into the hose. Remove the current barb and replace with the removable ones.

I have three tanks for...

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

I made a fenderboard out of 2" schedule 40 PVC pipe. The pipe is actually about 3" OD, very thick, sturdy, and stiff. I bought a 10' length and cut it into two pieces and made two of them like this:...

Re: Boat Explodes

OK, I did the quick google search, and the only examples I found involved elevated temperatures.

Since the flash point of diesel is 100-130F, I would believe that any explosion of fumes requires a...

Re: X-5 Auto Pilot opinions

After re-reading your original post, I realize that your issues are deeper than the setup process. Faulty clutch, control head going black, and lousy response from customer service are big issues...

Re: X-5 Auto Pilot opinions

Check again. It's there in section 1.4 "Adjusting pilot performance"

How competent was this person that you hired? Did he take the boat out and drive it around in circles? I'm not joking - he...

Re: X-5 Auto Pilot opinions

Does it have adjustable gain and/or response? Or even better, does it have "AutoSeastate" feature? These things will allow you to reduce the steering, and reduce battery drain.

On my autopilot...

Re: Avoid "diegoscustommarine" on eBay for custom canvas

That brings up an interesting point. Do you have any pull-down menus when you use Sailnet? Do you use the icons above the edit box to format, create links, post photos, etc? Does your "Like" button...

Re: RS-232 to Bluetooth Converters

What Android software do you use to display the NMEA data? And what sentences do you display? (GPS only, or others like AIS, depth, wind, SOW, etc.)

Re: Avoid "diegoscustommarine" on eBay for custom canvas

It seems like the root cause of the price difference is the local guy's refusal to use the current canvas as a template. I'd go back to him and tell him that the fabric is known to be low-shrinkage....

Re: Off-the-shelf way to get AIS from my GX2200 to Navionics on my tablet?

I started that thread that you referenced.

The first question is whether Navionics would display the AIS information if you could get it there. Here's what the Navionics website says:

So...

Re: RS-232 to Bluetooth Converters

I've used the USConverters ones for 4 years. Took some work to initially configure, but flawless performance ever since. I spent the extra $6 for the industrial version just to be sure I had the most...

Re: Avoid "diegoscustommarine" on eBay for custom canvas

When you contact them, are you just following the website links, or calling on the phone? If it's the former, try calling them on the phone. That way you can explain things in ways that may not...

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

Philly's Penns Landing waterfront still does not compare to Balmer, Boston, or NYC. There has been about 3 decades of aborted attempts to develop the whole area, including Willard Rouse, Disney, and...

Re: Give AIS a rest

Duly noted. I have only sailed a tiny piece of the globe, so my experience is very limited.

Which VHF are you considering? I ended up with AIS receiver as part of my VHF. The SH GX2150 is a pretty...
