Re: Edson pedestal brake question

If I remember correctly the last time that happened to me I had to fish the brakes out with a magnet on a string.

On that boat only my compass would come off, not the top of the pedestal, so I...

Re: What made you buy your boat?

My first boat purchase was inspired by the Free Yacht Saga on Instructables.com. My brother and I were basically looking for something floating we could get as cheaply as possible, so we ended up...

Re: Edson Pedestal Paint?

My pedestal was actually black. When I repainted it I actually used either Krylon or Rustoleum High Heat Barbecue Grill paint from the hardware store. Three years going and it still looks great.

Re: Custom Engine Panel Design

I had to make a panel from scratch for my boat.

I used Adobe Indesign to mock the size of the panel and then lay out the placement of the gauges, switches, etc. Then I printed it and taped the...

Re: How "afraid" should we be of sailing?

Disclaimer, I didn't read the entire thread, so my apologies if these two points have already been covered.

Statistically less accidents are going to happen in rough weather because less people...

Re: 1981 Evinrude 9.9hp 2str starts but won't run

My first guess is the vent on the fuel tank isn't open.

Re: Why are all local outfitters terrible?

If it gets unplugged, it goes straight to the bottom. It's sunk twice this year already. There's a bunch of legal issues with it. It's driving everyone in the marina crazy.

Re: Why are all local outfitters terrible?

We have a new West Marine superstore, a competing marine wholesale store, and a somewhat disorganized but well-stocked resale shop all within about a mile from each other. However, when it comes to...

Re: replacing the wood on the cabin side of a classic sailboat

Why not go the three strip method as previously mentioned but add in a couple strips of a different wood for contrast? Make it look like it's meant to have multiple planks, know what I mean?

There's a big cockpit locker on my Starwind 27 that could accomdate a diesel genset. Especially a tiny one like this: NEXT-GEN - Marine Power Units (http://www.nextgenerationpower.com/3kwmarine.html)...

Re: pointing

Re: Bimini/Boom height

My Starwind 27 has a low boom, so I only have 5' clearance under the bimini, you can't really stand up, but you don't get baked. It's a tradeoff.

It does help keep people from getting whacked in...

I used red oak and poplar for the two different shades of wood.
