Re: Replacing faucets - how to connect water hose?

The short answer is that you can get female pipe threades to hose barb adapters at HD, Lowes, etc. The faucet stem threads will be 1/2", and of course the barb size should match the ID of your...

Re: Another fatal attempt at "Youngest to circumnavigate"

I seem to remember an airliner crash some years ago (think it was an Airbus?) that was (eventually) directly attributed to a trim control failure.

Re: how to test plumbing?

Head is illegal? Do you mean that it's plumbed for OB discharge only, with no holding tank? Is there room for a tank? Or do you prefer to just go with a porta potty?
As far as testing goes, don't...

Re: Request for Comments: DIY Tether

Beyond the non-SS hardware and the inability to disconnect under load, this type of tether is also a problem due to its length. The shock absorption is accomplished by the web being gathered and...

Re: Cracked Catalina Transom

+1 on talking to Catalina. You may also want to run this issue in the Catalinaowners forum... With almost 7,000 C27s running around, this has probably happened before. There may have been a...

Re: Yamaha f4a outboard stalling

I'm having trouble finding a good diagram or picture of your model, to show you what I'm talking about. Could you remove the cover, take a picture and post it?

Re: Yamaha f4a outboard stalling

Not familiar with that specific motor, but many small OBs have a roller/cam linkgage to the actual carb throttle arm. This roller rides on a cam which advances with the magneto. In other words,...

Re: Leaking Heat Exchanger

Can you provide any info on the HE? It would be nice to know the manufacturer, but at the very least the material. A picture would help.

While not technically a spot weld, a brazed repair...

Re: Got a 'head' ache!

FW, you can find Jabsco rebuild kits for under $70 no eBay, with free shipping. Better yet, you can buy a whole new pump assembly for a bit under $100, shipped. There have been many head threads on...

Re: Looking for welding plans to build trailer

Re: A quick inverter question

+1 on AlanF's post. A common rule of thumb for electric induction motors is to take the RLA and multiply by 3, but some motors have even higher inrush current. For power tools on a boat, you might...

Re: Fuel tank sending units / gauges

Good point! Denise, IIRC, you're the Denise with the HVAC background? If so, I know won't need most of the following. Analog fuel, oil pressure and coolant temp guages all work the same way, and...

if you have an analog meter, it MAY work, but a digital, forget it. This advice is guaranteed for one million times the fee paid for it. :)

Re: Air Conditioner Issue

As I said before, you MUST place a resistor in series to test it with an ohmmeter.

Forget the cap, test the compressor windings. If the compressor is good, you need a new capacitor, new wire...

Re: Air Conditioner Issue

The cap is almost certainly dead, and caps are cheap. Test the compressor windings. With all leads disco'ed, use ohmmeter to check from C to S, and then from C to R. If you have continuity (it will...

Re: Air Conditioner Issue

The 50k resistor mentioned in the instructions for testing the cap. Yes, disconnect all leads from the cap. Unless your meter has capacitor testing capability, you have to place the resistor in...

Re: Air Conditioner Issue

Definitely with power OFF. Best with nothing but the meter and resistor connected to the cap. Some multimeters have cap testing ability, but the test described can be done with any ohmmeter.
