Re: Why I like this Picture...

This was from a Windjammer cruise we took on the Louis R. French in Maine. I like it because it reminds me of the serene mornings on that trip. We would sit on deck sipping coffee until the...

Re: How to pass the baton

Put the chart in your teeth, jump overboard, swim across. Then have your class rescue you. If you taught them well, you will not die. ;)

Re: Sail Size

Look for anything smaller than both the luff and foot measurements. Make sure the attachment to the mast (and maybe boom) is the same. Some sails just have a bolt rope that slides in a slot. ...

Re: Rethinking Jacklines

I like the idea of triangulating tethers at the bow. You could have two perminantly attached tethers that meet in the middle with one clip. They would only be long enough to kneel and reach the bow....

Re: Bristol 27 rudder damage

When you pull the boat out, remember that you will need a fair amount of room under the rudder, if you want to drop it down to remove. I haven't done mine, but, looks like you would need to chisel...

Re: Confession time...

Man Dale, those are some outrageously fine images you have of your boat on that video.

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

Cool. Very nautical. I want to do one of the rooms in our house to look exactly like the cabin of an old Herreshoff boat (it would need a galley and head too, b/c if I actually did this my wife...

Re: yes another help me find the perfect boat....

I updated the list. The inclusion criterion was only 30'-38'. Most of the boats on the list are not blue water boats.

Re: One Ship Stupid

I would tend to agree. However, everyone has a different continuum of what poor seamanship is. There are often trade-offs to doing things one way or another. Often the observer is not aware of the...

Re: Guidance with Laser2 Purchase -Please help!-

If you are by yourself, you will need to tend to both the main and jib. How relaxing or exciting the ride is will depend a lot on the weather. Be happy with what the day brings. Agree with Bob,...

Re: Mistral 16 pocket cruiser

The anchor hanging from the pulpit may also throw the balance of a little. When you anchor, you could just lower it from the cockpit.

Re: Safe paint removal?

I'm guessing it will be hard to get all of that off without damaging the gelcoat a little. You will need to patch those holes, too. It would be a bit difficult to match the gelcoat color...

Thanks Titus, I was not aware of that feature. In addition to your advice, I would add that if you want to find something on Sailnet you can limit your search to this web site like this:

Re: What percentage of boats are sold for competition vs sport?

I would imagine there are a large number of people who intend to race a little (local races usually held every week), and go cruising on the weekend. Oh, the exact percentage... 66.7%. Just...

re: Maiden Voyage Newbie Trainwreck

Take an experienced friend along next time. If that isn't possible, then go out on a dead calm morning, and practice motoring. Return to the slip a bunch of times. Enjoy your new ride, and...

Ron - I share your apprehension about sailing at night (my wife even more so).

I think what worries me is dealing with bad conditions at night. I would assume that those who enjoy sailing at...

Other than some sturctural killers, look out for stuff that will suck up your budget: replacing sails, motors, rigging (running and standing), personal gear (pfd, etc), operating expenses (launch...

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

I don't remember the site, however, I recall seeing a genoa off of Pyewacket (an 86' maxi sled) for sale for something like $1500. I would imagine that could be recut into a bunch of sails for a...

Re: "Paying" friends wanting to go on the boat.

What about doing some lessons? I did a 'Family and Friends' ASA lesson. This included a couple of days on the boat. The owner kept his boat in very good shape. The money he made from lessons...
