Re: Advice on selling a Camper Nicholson 49

Seems to me you need to get it on yachtworld.com to get a larger market. Before you posted link, I did a search and could not find a cn 49 for sale. also seems you might be in the $200k range or...

Re: Advice on selling a Camper Nicholson 49

Could you post the link again- it was removed. I think most buyers want to purchase in the country they will keep the boat (at least in your size range). I do not see the listing on Yacht World-...

Re: Why Hose Between Shaft Log and Packing Gland?

Agree, and if it were that much torque/vibration, the hose or hose clamps would probably be damaged or loosened.

Re: Why Hose Between Shaft Log and Packing Gland?

Yes they do come with lock nut. But say the lock nut loosens, is the idea that the shaft turning would prevent unscrewing on the packing gland nut? What reason would there be to sell to different...

Re: Why Hose Between Shaft Log and Packing Gland?

One more question. Buck Algonquin sells packing glands with either a left or right thread. So do you order the thread direction so that the shaft would tighten the packing nut (in case the lock nut...

Re: 1989 Hunter 40 - A million questions.

Smack,
I think you have a 99.999 percent chance you'll be ok. Think of the many thousands of recreational and commercial boats throughout the world that ply the oceans daily without incident, that...

Re: Why Hose Between Shaft Log and Packing Gland?

Mine actually looks like yours- like pic below. The other type (no hose) is used mainly on power boats- see Maine Sails post above describing the bearing and universal joint required for such an...

Re: Why Hose Between Shaft Log and Packing Gland?

Yes, I understand the hose keeps out the water, I also have the hose method. But there is a way to do without the hose as the below pic shows (the packing gland is in the stern tube- no need for...

Re: Why Hose Between Shaft Log and Packing Gland?

I was going to install the fiberglass G10 tube as you describe above. However I was looking at the Buck Algonguin catalog and found the bronze shaft log stub that may work better. What I like about...

Re: Why Hose Between Shaft Log and Packing Gland?

That is my engine/trans set up - V Drive. A yanmar 3gmd with a Kansaki V drive. The packing gland and shaft log sit right under the engine. Real hard to get to. I might pull the engine to do the...

Re: Why Hose Between Shaft Log and Packing Gland?

That is what I find interesting. I read about how critical it is to get you engine and prop shaft flange to align but then as soon as a diesel starts up (with all of its inherent vibration) and...

Re: Why Hose Between Shaft Log and Packing Gland?

Why Hose Between Shaft Log and Packing Gland?

Why is there a hose between the shaft log and the packing gland? Some packing glands are built right into the shaft log, so why have the hose? Seems the hose just adds more hose clamps that could...

Re: Progressive Insurance Claim question

Just my opinion, but the insurance companies that are considered "the best" generally are the hardest to get insured by- the companies have high standards for whom they except to insure. So, given...

Re: Shaft Log Repair

Thinking about this a little more. I looked more closely at the existing bronze log- the metal is thin where it protrudes from the hull- it looks like in the distant past the shaft may have rubbed...

Re: Progressive Insurance Claim question

Your rate may go up no matter if you report the incident to the insurance company or not. When you go shopping for insurance they ask have you had an "accident" in the last so many years, not have...
