Re: Yanmar 2GMF, throttle return spring too strong

I looked but didn't see one; will look again. It kinda appears that spring tension
is needed from another source to balance the idle-ward internal tension in the fuel system itself.

Yanmar 2GMF, throttle return spring too strong

I recently acquired a Pearson 303, vintage 1983, and I'm still getting to know it. Yanmar 2GMF inboard.

A curious problem: the throttle appears to have a return spring, or something similar,...

Re: Yanmar 2gmf stuck in reverse gear

On the subject of oil: The gearbox nameplate appears to specify (if I'm reading it right) SAE 20/30 HD.

Two questions:

1) Does this make sense, or am I reading it wrong?

2) How important...

Re: Yanmar 2gmf stuck in reverse gear

Many thanks! I've been looking and looking for that service manual!

Re: Yanmar 2gmf stuck in reverse gear

Okay, so I wriggled my way down to the gearbox -- it's not very accessible,
to say the least. The nameplate is on the starboard side, which is
*completely* inaccessible without a power saw, but I...

Re: Yanmar 2gmf stuck in reverse gear

Yes, this is the impression I'm getting from Teh Google. My elderly spine will protest at crawling back down there -- access is VERY difficult -- but I'll do it, and take a picture of the plate, if I...

Re: Yanmar 2gmf stuck in reverse gear

Oh and by the way, what's the right kind of oil for the gearbox? Much back-and-forth in the various forums, and I'm kind of a n00b to this...

Re: Yanmar 2gmf stuck in reverse gear

The cable seems to move freely until the rod it's connected to, which goes into the gearbox, won't move any farther. But of course it's hard to be sure the problem isn't with the cable. I'll...

Angry Yanmar 2gmf stuck in reverse gear

Hi all -- I recently acquired a 1983 Pearson 303, which I'm liking very much. It has a Yanmar 2GMF 13 hp 2-cylinder diesel, which runs like a champ. This evening, however, I discovered, to my...

Thanks again, Faster. Excellent advice. And you have identified my problem: previous owners have indeed tinkered with the rig on my boat, one way and another. FX was one of the sources I found on the...

To clarify: I was indeed hoping to save some money by ordering from some outfit that does this stuff, for well-known boat types, on a commodity basis. Is this actually a stupid idea? And if not......

Replacement sails for Pearson 26

I have a 1979-vintage Pearson 26. One of the previous owners fitted a Harken roller-furling rig to the headsail, which works pretty much OK. It's getting to be time to replace the sails.
A quick...
