Re: how to convert the naive and the unwilling?

Mark makes good points about planning. Your charter company will give you a good intro and what you'll find is pretty much everyone who does the BVI charter thing does the same counter-clockwise...

Re: Jon Eisberg's Passing today...

Wow. What a loss. Looking at the photos of Jon, I am struck by the fact that he is at least 10-15 years older than I would have expected based on the stories, the clarity and the attitude which he...

Re: 1982 Cape Dory 36

Hey Congrats on the new ride. Nice boat! The CD Board is not as active as the forums but the info there is excellent -- definitely use the search function most topics have been covered in great...

Poetry for the landlocked?

First a confession of sorts, I'm not a fan of traditional sailing poems like John Masefield ("give me a tall ship and a star to steer her by"). But I do love poetry and find that it both goes with...

Re: Pacific Crossing

Congrats Phil! Don't we deserve at least one story from you "uneventful" crossing?

Re: Waterway Guide Beats Active Captain

Yeah, I don't use the routes either (and don't really get the value in doing so -- I store my routes elsewhere). Before the ban, I would participate in the crowd sourcing -- adding anchorage, marina...

Re: Waterway Guide Beats Active Captain

It is this simple. AC right now is a very useful, if flawed, tool. I think the owner is a first class jackass, but I use the site before any trip into new territory (well, I am banned so I have to...

Re: New Bern, NC meet and greet?

Thanks John. I love the protection at NWC but floating docks would be nice . . .

Re: New Bern, NC meet and greet?

Really regretting not having made it to the boat ahead of this storm. Anyone have a sense of whether the river is receeding? Last word from NWC was that they had 1'+ of water over the docks and...

Re: New Bern, NC meet and greet?

Me either, the track of Joaquin allowed me to stay here and slave away a few days longer! Think I will make it south next weekend(ish). Would love to do a trip to MJ's if any of you are interested....

Re: U.S. coast guard searching for ship near Bahamas

Talk about a tough business. Marine traffic reports that she departed Jacksonville on the 29th @2100hrs -- basically sailing right into the teeth of the developing Joaquin (which intensified...

Re: TS Joaquin

Hiya Shoes -
Go hit the song chain to earn your pm privs . . . or just post some nonsense here (you're only a few posts away). I am in NWC just outside of New Bern. Don't know where Mark and SoL...

Re: TS Joaquin

Sounds great. There is a fantastic seafood joint in NB -- great food and (wait) $2 beers :D Always looking for an excuse to head there. Let me know.

Re: TS Joaquin

Where's your boat Mark? I am headed to NC tomorrow (I'll be in New Bern which is within an hour of Beaufort and Oriental). If there is anything I can do, email me.

Re: Rights during USCG Inspection.

I have a vague recollection of (but no cite for) a case within the past 2 years challenging the applicability of this to inland waters / coastal waters. Might have been discussed on CF.

Re: Rights during USCG Inspection.

Interesting point. Not sure I agree. You may well have rights that are not recognized. What is the impact of the violation and your recourse? That might be a more useful / productive construct.

Re: Boat suggestions for island hopping in the Bahamas and FL Keys?

Don't sweat it too much. Find something that suits you and fits your budget. Super shallow draft is nice but plenty of people do just fine with 5'. The important part is to go.

Re: Oriental to Ocracoke

Jon - I had a fishing boat lined up to take me through the inlet last summer but my weather window never developed. They were very sure that they had plenty of water for my 5' draft the whole way...

Dual MRBF Fuse Block

Does anyone know whether different sized fuses may be used on the Blue Seas dual MRBF fuse blocks? Blue Seas website has nothing on this. TIA.

Re: Bad Survey - Sue for Return of Deposit?

That is the second time in a week I have heard the term "standard yacht broker contract". I have made at least 8-10 offers on boats and have never seen 2 agreements which were the same. In fact, I...
