Re: Is Sailing Sexist?

As far as obsticals I'm referring more to physical ones, sick, injured, tired, cold, etc. not technical issues necessarily. In a work invironment I'm robably referring more to attitude, such as when...

Re: Is Sailing Sexist?

The issues in this thread keep bringing me back to what I believe are some of the inherent difference between men and women. Although there are probably many stereotypical male attributes I don't...

Re: Garmin Blue Chart Mobile apps - hate to buy charts again

When most of their Blue Charts were sold on CD's I recall that you were limited to installing the charts to two units. I use their mobile app both on my IPhone and IPad. I paid for the app but don't...

Re: Just bought a boat.

Great boat. I believe the designer was Carl Alberg, designer of most of the Cape Dories. Sea Sprite and Cape Dory owner associations a good info resources. Good luck with it.

Re: Is Sailing Sexist?

You said it much better than I could.. Not to call out Denise, but when I read her post my first impression was that it highlighted the inherent differences between men and women.

Stereotypes...

Re: Is Sailing Sexist?

Is it sexist to recognize that there are physical and psychological differences between men and women. I don't think so. It would be sexist to discriminate against a female in favor of a male in...

Re: Tohatsu key blank

I recall being told by a Tohatsu dealer that there are only three different keys. Hense the lack of blanks.

Re: sandblasting with crushed glass

He might be remembering the opposit of what he heard. There was a good article on soda blasting in Pratical Sailor a few months back. If I'm remembering correctly the reason for using bicarbonate of...

Re: sandblasting with crushed glass

I don't have any expertise with blasting hulls but just from the general knowledge you get from owning a boat I think soda blasting is the most common method of blasting paint from a boat hull. Never...

Re: Rebuild head, or replace, and with what?

Check the base of the head. If it is plastic definitely replace. If it is bronze painted white its a newer model and you could probably be ok with a new pump or rebuild kit. My original Groco had the...

Re: Is Sailing an Elitist Sport?

I agree 100%. If I can engage in an activity while having a beer I don't call it a sport.

Re: Pilothouse Cruisers

I'm assuming you are referring to the Cape Dory MS 300? I'll second what you are saying.. Having the pilot house really extends the season in Maine. For a 30 footer it has a ton of room.

Re: Single Berth 40' ers? Where are you now?

Some versions of the Hinckley Bermuda 40 possibly. They are fairly narrow and I recall being on one that had 4 singles in the main cabin two at seat level on each side and two above. Sort of where a...

Re: Physical Fitness

I don't think the problem is the avoidance of common sailing related activities. The problem is that most sailing activities are not strenuous enough. To get into really good shape you need to do a...

Re: Where do you keep your owner's manuals/info?

I also like the hard copies. The originals of all equipment is in a divided accordion folder at home. Copies are in a three ring binder on the boat. Using copies makes it possible to get manuals in...

Re: CO2 fire extinguisher?

I thought Halon and now Halatron are preferred for engine compartments over CO2 because of the potential for thermal shock damage to the hot engine caused by the cold CO2.

I installed a fire port...
