Sign the petition to prosecute the Lake County Sheriff that killed the sailor

I don't know if the sailing community remembers this miscarriage of justice on Clear Lake, California, when the Sheriff, under the influence, ran his powerboat at high speed at night over a sailboat,...

Re: Laura Dekker makes land on St Maarten

A bit of an update. After flying back to Bonaire, Laura got back on Guppy and headed to Panama with crew. She, along with a few friends of mine are at Shelter Bay Marina, where her new crew, Bruno...

Re: Calling all electic drive boats

nocouple,

You got that right. Current price for lithium batteries is $1.30 per a/hr per 3.2 volt cell. My bank will be small at 200 a/hr 48 volt for inverter/propulsion bank, a modest 9.6 Kw/hr....

Re: Calling all electic drive boats

So that there is no confusion, I'm sure tommays comment refers to Elco, and not Advanced Marine. AM, to my knowledge has done nothing but sailboats.

Re: Calling all electic drive boats

I wish companies that have designed a better mousetrap would learn how to get it out to the masses. Of all my recent research into EP, the one thing I found in common was over-pricing for the marine...

Re: Electric Propulsion.

You will do much better in the above scenario with electric. A diesel's torque comes on at 1600~1800 rpm for the small diesels we use, an electric will produce full rated torque at 0 rpm. A slow...

Re: Laura Dekker makes land on St Maarten

I haven't a clue and don't know why your being evasive. If the answer is "you wouldn't know me", that would be fine. In 3 year's time I've racked up >150K sea miles, so was curious if our paths have...

Re: Laura Dekker makes land on St Maarten

Ok, I was never very good at 20 questions, so I give up.

Re: Laura Dekker makes land on St Maarten

Thank you for that. What is your connection to our sailing teenage girls?

Since you typed MercerPR without the space, I'm guessing you are with MercerPR?

Is that you Lyall?

Re: Laura Dekker makes land on St Maarten

I think at one time each girl was with Mercer PR. Laura for a 4 month period, Abby during the de-masting in the Indian Ocean, and I was told Jessica was with the firm for awhile.

You want to set...

Re: Laura Dekker makes land on St Maarten

She crossed paths with some of my friends also, and that was the same assessment they gave, not a young teen, but rather another cruiser. She is such an old soul in the marine environment.

Re: Laura Dekker makes land on St Maarten

She is the real deal. Has a uncanny ability when it comes to sailing and tenacious when it comes to fighting for her right to sail.

Re: Laura Dekker makes land on St Maarten

My best guess on that is the old Steve Dashew trick of having a dedicated charging prop that has a pitch that is opposite to that of the propulsion screw for good energy transfer under sail to a...

Re: Handheld LED flashlight for coming into those dark, moonless anchorages

Nice little 32 watt DC to DC. That should power a few LEDs. Sounds like you get the same satisfaction on rolling your own as I do. I doubt it would make any difference, but I'd set the output at 3.7...

Re: Handheld LED flashlight for coming into those dark, moonless anchorages

I'm on that site also, using my username that I use on about 20 forums. The LED market is gearing up to replace CF, the same way CF displaced incandescent for general lighting. Huge market when you...
