Re: Shackle question

Ok thanks all for the replies!

Do you think it would be worth re-using the HR pin or just go with a whole new non-HR shackle.

And yes, I'll be wiring these closed from now on...

Shackle question

I'm trying to find out if the shackle in the attached pic is a 'high resistance' shackle or just a regular one. According to Harken, the HR ones are stamped with an 'HR.' The pin on this one is...

Re: Seattle Boat Show for sailors?

I went yesterday. There were only three 'big' sailboats there, all Beneteau's, a 25, 37, and 38. The rest of the sailing section is exactly as Alex described.

Re: Inflatable Kayaks

I've been using an Innova Helios II for a few months and it's been pretty stable. I went with the Innova because it seemed more durable for my dog. Plus with no 'skin' on the outside it makes it...

Re: Inflatable kayak as a small boat tender

I use an Innova Helios 2, and as far as inflatables go, it's really sturdy. It tracks pretty well if you remember to attach the fin underneath and is relatively stable. I take my dog back and forth...

Re: Docking with a spring line questions

capecodda - I think that's basically what happened, yes. I'll keep playing around with it but I'm glad to be making some progress, it was getting a little frustrating ;-) Thanks for all the...

Re: Docking with a spring line questions

capecodda - so yesterday I went back out, waited for most of the people/boats to head out for a fun race so as to cause myself the least embarrassment, and tried some more stuff. I went back to the...

Re: Docking with a spring line questions

Hi all - I went back out to the boat and while I was able to get it to balance after it had "settled" by making sure the spring was tied aft of the widest part of the boat (it probably only narrows a...

Re: Docking with a spring line questions

Thanks all for the additional input - this has been a very helpful thread.

MarkSailor - I'll try using the stern cleat too. I'm going to wait until I can take it to a spot with nothing in front...

Re: Docking with a spring line questions

tomandchris - not disagreeing, that's been my experience. But articles like the two below confused me. Maybe they're assuming enough force from water on the rudder to swing the stern in asthe...

Re: Docking with a spring line questions

jfdubu - So you do this with a saildrive boat and have to rev up a bit to get the desired result? It makes sense in theory but if someone else has had the same experience it would be nice to know.

Re: Docking with a spring line questions

jfdubu - For me it was about both. Basically creating a simple way to pull in to the slip under varying conditions (especially a cross wind blowing me off the dock) and then to hold the boat in...

Re: Docking with a spring line questions

tomandchris - thanks for the reply. I definitely don't want the starboard neighbor to have to worry!

Is the video you're talking about "Singlehanded Docking & Sail Trim"? I can't post links...

Re: Docking with a spring line questions

capecodda, bljones - thanks, it's making more sense now!

chef2sail - you talk about a second line but shouldn't the first line prevent the boat from reaching the head of the slip? how sturdy is...

Re: Docking with a spring line questions

So capecodda and bljones...

I was thinking I would turn hard away and the wash on the rudder (wheel away from the dock) would pull the stern in, but it sounds like both of you think attaching the...

Re: Docking with a spring line questions

@johnnyquest37 - I'm trying to go bow in, port tie. Backing in is an option I need to look at though, it would just be a really long trip in reverse down the fairway.

@capecodda - The prop is...

Docking with a spring line questions

Hey all,

I've been reading a lot about docking with a single bow aft or midship aft springline and I've successfully done so on several boats, however, I'm having a lot of trouble getting it to...

Re: c&c 99 hull survey question

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to walk, there's just too much risk.

The boat in question was produced the same year as the C&C 121 that had so many problems, and while there isn't any hull...

c&c 99 hull survey question

[This was posted to another less active forum, not Sailnet, so my apologies if you have seen this question before.]

I had a 2002 C&C 99 hauled out for a survey today knowing that in December 2012...
