Re: .25 gal/hr. Really???

My 5 hp Merc 4 stroke outboard on my Cat 22 burns about 1 litre per 45 minutes at 3/4 throttle which is about 6 mph. That is something like 20 mpg or pretty close to 1/3 gal per hour.

Re: Hopes and dreams. Is this realistic?

Hey Sherwood

Just another perspective here - sailing is a malady. if it inflicts you bad enough then one way or another you will just go. If you stand on the shore of a large body of water and...

Re: The New Generation

I think it's on topic because this current generation of young people as a whole is geting the short end of the stick economically. Is any of that coming through in these blogs? It's not really...

Re: Humbled

I think there was something wrong with the boat you rented.

I have a Sunfish. There is no way to waterlog it. The cockpit is tiny and the hull is like a gigantic surfboard filled with foam. If...

Re: Tomorrow we move aboard and set off

Congrats! We have 3 sons, 22, 20 and 18 and all of them sail. What a fast and powerful crew you will have in a couple of more years!! You have no idea......

Re: Selling the house or renting

Many Canadian sailboats on our docks heading south. I was talking to one Canadian about the dream and he said that you should give up the house because you are always worrying about the house ,...

Re: West Whight potter...tell me about them.

My buddy has had one - the smallest one - for about ten years ( guess its a 15 footer) and up until this month he was one slip over from me. The boat is cute ( he hates to hear that) and simple to...

Re: Daysailer vs cat 22

Do you set yours up while on the trailer? I tried doing it in the slip this year. Was about just as hard. Sailing is hard enough without all that.

If i was really dry sailing, I'd get a smaller...

Re: Newbie renting a keelboat - dumb idea?

Its the same thing. Go on a "light air " day and know the tides and currents.

The problem will be docking. Even a small 3000 lb sailboat can be tricky to dock the first few times.

Re: Is Sailing Sexist?

I find that women who do most of the housework in their marriage then tend to generalize about the rest of us.

I do as much , or more housework and domestic duty than my wife does. My wife has...

Re: docking with no motor and 20 knots

I would never go in sailing downwind into a slip. Unless I didn't care if I smashed the dock, like in a medical emergency or something. Approach sailing upwind to an outside dock or sail as close...

Re: Who is divorced because of sailing?

My partner in a boat got divorced. We bought a H31 off ebay and he spent the next 6 months restoring it, neglecting everything else.

When he told his wife how much we spent on it, she looked...

Re: My wife, the reluctant sailor

It's painfully clear what is happening here. What a pity. Good thing is - she is trying to hang with you on land so that means she cares and is trying. I can see my wife doing the same exact thing....

Re: Daysailer as reasonable re-entry boat in Hudson River, single-handed or w company

My friends have an Oday Daysailer moored a bit further north than you and they say it is fine on the Hudson.

One person can sail it fine. Picking up the mooring alone would worry me a little if...

Re: Daysailer vs cat 22

My C22 can easily make 6 mph measured on my gps in a 8 -10 knot breeze while carrying 6 people. I'm happy with the performance. In my opinion it's a miserable task to rig and set up. But on the...

Re: Boat Sitting - Is it really an outrageous proposition?

I think this is a pipe dream unless you sweeten the deal. Most owners will not go for it. We actually were in verbal agreement a similar deal but not livaboard with an unused sailboat in our marina....

Re: Sailing around the world on a Catalina 22 sailboat

Again, if you read my comment - specifically to Rich as he says its designed for strictly inland use - I just pointed out what the manufacturer says about it since they did have a hand in designing...
