Re: Rafiki 37 owners out there?

I met a guy while on the hard at Berkeley who used to work at Svendson's boat yard in Alameda rigging all the new Rafiki's when they came in. He told me about a contractor who customized a couple of...

Re: Marinas in Texas

Thanks for all the replies thus far. Watergate and Seabrook seem to be the recommendation for the area. Since I'll only get to the boat on weekends and holidays it might make sense to suck it up and...

Re: Rafiki 37 owners out there?

Hey Mike,

I have two 100 panels--one on each side. I put stainless tubing in over the life lines to mount them and have them swing up and down with lock screws I tapped out. They work great. We...

Re: Rafiki 37 owners out there?

Congrats on the Rafiki! I can only hope you find her as awesome as my wife and I have. I got to look again, but I think I'm hull #27. We love the boat. I've added solar, furling with a Yankee jib,...

Re: Rafiki 37 owners out there?

Thanks, Mike. Yeah, we weren't paying attention, just cruising along on a beam reach and just got swiped. We were on the face of a large swell at the time as well so everything happened fast. I'll...

Re: Rafiki 37 owners out there?

I have steel tanks in mine and don't have any problems that I can see. Fuel is clean and tanks are solid. I have heard of others claiming rust, so mine may not be the originals, but I don't see how...

Re: Rafiki 37 owners out there?

While we're all talking about our Rafiki's, anyone have any experience with trimtab self steering on this? I've been emailing Lin and Larry Pardey and they've sent me some drawings and pictures to...

Re: Rafiki 37 owners out there?

Hey Mike,
I know they also stenciled the numbers onto the inner hull, port side, typically in the cabinet of the head. Last two numbers are the hull number.

Just bought a new dacron sail and am looking for some info on what type of decals will stick well. I contacted fastsigns and they weren't sure whether a vinyl decal would stick to a sail....

Re: Created a sailnet forum goup for San Franciso Bay Area sailing

I like the idea of the group, but I agree--we don't do anything. I'm still in Alameda.

Re: Rafiki 37 owners out there?

Hey Rick,

When I bought the boat it had a setup where the sheet travels along the bottom of the boom to the mast, then down to a pulley and back to the the cockpit. It's a healthy length of rope,...

Re: Rafiki 37 owners out there?

Good to meet another owner. I'm in the SF Bay area and I know of three others here with Rafiki 37s. I'm possibly heading your way this Summer. We're planning, but things with work may interfere. It'd...

Re: Morro? Monterey? Pismo? Weekend on the hook.

You may try Avila Beach (Port San Luis Obispo). Pretty cool place to anchor, for a fee, or for free in between the beach pier and the oil pier (as in oil company). A little rolly, but not bad....

Re: Living in Florida

You may wish to look at the Tallahassee area. Lived there for many years and loved it. There is a deep water marina in Carrabelle (and closer at St. Marks, but not so deep), and so much to do if you...

Not sure what to say. I've sailed a bunch of coasts, East and West, but never to Hawaii. I don't do it to feel safe. I want to take my boat to Hawaii and have some time to do it. Just trying to get...

Hawaii to SF question

I've got a good idea of what sailing to Hawaii from SF will be like, and how long it may take, but I'm not sure of the trip back. I'm in a 37 ft, 13 ton, full keel, 6ft draft, double-ender hoping to...

Re: California dinghy registration madness

Being in California, It could be argued that it depends on the day, time, and place you arrive at the DMV. I registered a brand new, ebay-bought, 11' dingy, with an 1997 4

re: no sailing experience ocean crossing

I bought a 69 Coronado 30 in after sailing only a few times on a lake in a cal 20. Took it from Marina Del Rey with my brother in law who'd never stepped foot in a sailboat and headed North for...
