Re: How many women here own their own boat?

"All the good ones are taken"

Loser nonsense from both perspectives.

Re: Rawson 30- A Blue Water Cruiser?

The pilothouse made a big improvement in the Rawson's appearance - they are a good looking boat and more in line with its motorsailor performance envelope.

I'd say they need a much bigger rig more...

Re: "Sailor" rescued 5 miles into 3,000 mile trip

IMO, we have to stop interfering with Darwin's principles this way. Now that idiot is back on dry land he might BREED.

Re: samson c lord

I wasn't denigrating ferro, just stating some realities. I've been around ferro boats since John Samson was in full swing here in the early 70's and I dreamed of my own C-Lord back then. I still have...

Re: topside panel repair

I think you should sell it to him and use the proceeds for a dictionary or elementary book on spelling & grammar.

Morgan 3/4 Tonner

Does anyone here know anything about this boat? It is definitely not a 33T or derivative. The deck came out of a mould, not sure about the hull. I've only ever seen one other - on L.A. Craigslist...

Re: Roberts 36 Bilge Keel....good or bad buy?

But is it a tub? That is the question, not whether it's steel or has multiple keels.

My first boat was a bilge keeler - a Vivacity 20 - it was a tub but I didn't know any better then. :D

A...

Re: topside panel repair

If it doesn't get wet It might well be, but solid glass will be good into the mists of time. For localized areas of reinforcement, I'd take solid glass every time.

Of course, the only fiberglass...

Re: 220 buccaneer

Sono is right - Mull design, actually a variation on the Ranger 22 design. Bayliner "quality" is as described, US yacht not a lot better but lets keep in mind we're talking about a 22' here, not a...

Re: topside panel repair

Hello has it right - I'd use G10. New plywood is still going to be plywood which is less than perfect in a cored laminate. Solid glass has all the advantages and none of the negatives of ply.

Re: A small success

Congrats - FWIW the main difference between newbie and experienced fiberglassers is neatness of workmanship. The more you do the neater it gets and the less scratchy & itchy grinding you have to do.

Re: Roberts 36 Bilge Keel....good or bad buy?

You say you don't want to buy a tub?

'Nuff said. ;)

A bilge keel Roberts would fit the definition of tub pretty closely.

Re: Winch Free Spins

Try it like I described on one winch - I'll bet you'll be a convert. I've always found the winches on my "new" boats to be gunked up with old dried grease and dirt - hadn't been serviced for a decade...

Re: Winch Free Spins

You are correct. IMO the majority of info out there on winch lubing is "Conventional Wisdom" and/or out of date. I attach a post I did a while back on the subject.

As far as winch lubrication...

Re: Interesting Sailboats

Dehlers have always been good looking boats. I'd prefer to give up a couple of feet of waterline in exchange for a bit of bow overhang though - it would look even better that way.

Anchor handling...

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

Are those pics simply before & after the acid bath or did you polish them up after?

Also, where were you when I spent all those days with wire brushes, sandpaper, buffing wheels & metal polish?...
