Re: Proposed wiring diagram for a trailer sailer

One suggestion for the assignment of breakers on your panel: one boat we chartered on had all the "at sea" loads in a row on one side of the panel, and the "anchored/docked" loads on another. Made it...

Re: Airmar / Raymarine DST800 Transducer Issue

The height of the geyser will depend on how far under water the fitting is. I pull mine to haul and launch (sling straps are bad for the wheel) and there's a gush, but I either clap my hand on it or...

Re: Key switch

The purpose of the ball bearing is to keep the key from falling out or being removed in the ON position. When mine fell apart I used the compass light switch for a while until I got a replacement...

Re: Transmission Yanmar KM35P problem

I had that negative experience - "lapping" initially "fixed" the problem, but only for about one season... Then it came back. Even worse, the marine lapped it a second time, which lasted even less. ...

Re: Transmission Yanmar KM35P problem

If that is a cone clutch tranny, it sounds like the cone is worn. My 2GM20 had that problem (don't recall which transmission it had; your number sounds familiar, though yours is likely bigger but may...

Re: Need help removing these icebox lids

Is that round piece a cap/plug covering a screw? Have you tried to pry it out?

Re: Red over Green Navigation Light

I thought about installing red-over-green on my boat; my research found that Lopolight make 180 degree green sp in theory an all-round red at the top with a green on each side of the mast 1 m down...

Re: Bird nests in the boom

We use a crumpled wad of aluminum foil in the end of the boom. There's a plastic cap, but still an opening around it. Birds don't peck out the foil.

Re: Need an IPN ProRemote for 20 minutes

Where? If you're in Montreal (or at least north of the 49th), we can talk.
Would an IPM UCM (Ethernet comm module) do the job?

Re: ST60 wind display

You can swap the housing. I replaced an ST60 Winfd with an ST60+ wind and installed the new + in the old 69 housing. Looks like the other five, only the + on the dial shows the difference. And...

Re: Entry level AIS?

The Standard GX2150 VHF with AIS does output both DSC and AIS in NMEA0183. Icom also has a VHF/AIS combo which outputs AIS.

Re: Yanmar super vibration

Glad to have helped.

The 2GM20 had a single double-ended cone (I still have my old one), although I'd call it more than a "washer" - it weighs about a pound, the inside hole is a spiral thread...

Re: Battery Help

Don't knock autocorrect - that's the only reason I ever get called Normal.

Re: main breaker

Our Jeanneau has a separate ELCI (similar to a GFCI) breaker in an aft locker near the power inlet. The delivering dealer relocated it from the nav station electrical panel to meet North American...

Re: Nice places/beaches around Kingston and Thousand Islands?

We're also planning on visiting the Thousand Islands late-July/August 2014, heading up from Montreal. Any suggestions appreciated.

Re: Battery Help

Could it be that the stereo is wired direct to the B1 side of the switch, or to B1 directly? Probably done to preserve the tuner memories when the switch is off. Not ideal but OK as long as it's...

Re: Charging with generator

I have a Honda EU2000i and a Freedom 2500 inverter/charger.

Even though it should theoretically be within the ratings of the generator, I found that I had to reduce the charger's "power share"...

Yanmar super vibration

The 2GM20 on my previous boat developed a horrible shake / clunking - in forward only - due to a worn cone clutch. Don't know if you have the same transmission (mine used regular oil, not...

Re: TV installation

We used a "VideoSecu LCD Monitor TV Flat Panel Wall Mount VESA 75/100 - Ultra Thin Mount Bracket" - basically two flat plates with edges that curve around each other - so the TV would rest as close...

Re: NAV/RADAR Monitor Size

My Raymarine E120 (and it's smaller bretheren) has a VGA output which is cabled to the 24" LCD TV in the main cabin - "because it's there". Haven't really used it for navigation, but it's useful...

Re: Need a creative solution

Could you mount the bimini frame on the aft pulpit? That would raise it and move it back, but maybe more than you need.

Re: What material is best for boat yards?

Some places (not boatyards, AFAIK) are now using lattice-pattern concrete pavers which let some grass grow - and water drain - through the holes, while presenting a solid enough surface for motor...

Re: HAM v. SSB Frequencies (check radio is unlocked for HAM)?

As a grammatical and technical nitpicker from way back, I'd agree, though in this day and age it's unlikely to see anyone using CW in the marine bands (or the original poster in the Ham bands), and...

Re: AIS integrated into VHF Radio.

Far be it from me to excuse anything done by the country to the south of us in the Great White North, but they and we do have a need for more simplex, and fewer duplex, channels than are...
