backstay adjuster

Our local rigger also recommended a hydralic system, but at $1000 bucks installed, it seemed too expensive. I''m sure you''re right about the money, but I was trying to do this with about $350 or...

new sails

Thanks to you as well for the advice. Again, although they''re obviously not going to solve all problems, I do expect new sails to boost performance some. This year on several occasions a sister ship...

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, block and tackle is the way to go. Do you have any recommendations for the type of configuration? Right now, I don''t have a split backstay, but I guess I can get a...

new sails

Thanks a lot for all the good advice. I have crewed on some pretty good boats, but I found that as rail meat you often learn very little about tactics. There usually isn''t time to do much explaining...

new sails

I''d like to hear some more opinions about this. I have a Cal 28-2 with the original dacron sails dating from 1986. I race in Marblehead, MA with very light winds most of the summer. I got smoked by...

Hi. I have a Cal 28-2, hull #003, built in 1986. I''ve used it for daysailing and crusing, and started club racing (PHRF) this year. After learning the ropes a bit, next summer I wanted to get...

stinky head

Have you disassembled the hoses that attach to your Y valve (I''m assuming you have one)? When I did I found years of fossilized bacterialogical growth that was as hard as concrete -- at first I...

where to get cheap whisker poles?

If you only need 6-12 feet you probably don''t need a heavy duty pole. (Depends on what kind of boat you have.) They''re hard to find used. You can get a new one for a little over a hundred bucks.
