Re: Fire ! / Heat Damage

Ron,

Just helping out with the images.. Sorry for your loss.

You will have a pretty big claim but I suspect any hot spots in the glass can be easily repaired. Matching the gelcoat, good luck...

Re: DEKA vs. Lifeline AGM Batteries?

Yep hogwash.... They will recharge faster, when new, but not 5X faster.. Deka's can take about 30-40% of capacity when new and floodeds can take about 25%.

A 100Ah flooded batt at a 5A load will...

Re: Adapting an automobile tachometer

You just need an alt with an "AC Tap" or stator tap and a diesel type tachometer. Any alt show can re-wire your alt to have a stator tap for an alt.. You will also need a digital photo tach for...

Re: Needed: Battery charger with equalization/desulfation mode

The best tool for equalization & charging at home, IMHO, is a bench top power supply. You don't need one any larger than 10A and 30V. (they usually come in 15V or 30V and 15V is too low for an EQ so...

Re: Considerations for Upgrading Electrical System

If you really want to spend the money on a good alt then the Balmar AT165 can't be beat. These are mean a$$ alts that can output tremendous current at low RPM and still run cool!!

Balmar bought...

Re: Considerations for Upgrading Electrical System

If you stay GEL for start you will need to use a product like the Balmar Duo Charge to feed the GEL proper charging voltage.

The Group 31's are Deka GEL batteries and the same as the West Marine...

Re: Westerbeke Glow Plug

40 seconds on glow plugs, with a healthy bank and proper wiring is a recipe to burn them out. Most all of these glow plugs need a max of 15 seconds in a healthy system. They are rated at 10.5V to...

Shore Power-SmartPlug vs. 1938 (long post)

In today's day and age it is far and few between that I come across products that:

#1 Do as they say.

#2 Are built to an exceptional standard.

#3 Redefine what great is.

The...

Re: Updating DC System

Boomer,

#1 A battery disconnect switch is simply a battery switch. Each bank needs to be capable of being turned off or isolated. Any 1/2/BOTH, ON/OFF or DCP battery switch will meet this...

Re: Engine start shuts off chartplotter

The problems are / could be:

1- Aged batteries beyond their useful life. No healthy 500+ Ah GEL battery bank should EVER drop electronics even at 50% SOC when starting a 4J Yanmar.. Something is...

Re: DEKA vs. Lifeline AGM Batteries?

Lifeline & Odyssey are the two "premium" AGM's. Lifelines can be equalized Deka and Odyssey can not. Conditioning or equalizing charges can greatly extend the life of Lifeline AGM batteries beyond...

Re: O'Day 302

Pay very close attention to the keel stubs on these boats. We know some were 1/4" or less thick and a few of them had had the keels literally fall off.

Re: ESPAR High Amp Draw On Start-Up

Re: Bedding Deck Hardware With Butyl Tape

It will "work" but the questions will be:

For how long?
Will it bleed and continue to bleed when hot?
Will it stain?
Will it remain flexible enough to keep the seal when it is 1/64" thick?
How...

Re: That's a pretty cheap boat heater!

I did a heat loss calc for our CS-36T using the old school IBR technique. A lot of it was guess work to figure transmission values. I sized it for 15F as my coldest temp. At 15F our 8000 BTU forced...
