Re: 1975 Grampian 28 Engine Mount Failure

Well I have not been able to look into this issue since the first post. And yes I am talking about the engine beds, sorry for the confusion!

In the photo below it is hard to see the cracks. They...

1975 Grampian 28 Engine Mount Failure

Hello Everyone,

I've got an engine mount that is cracked and wobbling when the engine runs. I've stripped away some of the failed fibreglass repair. Now I'm back to the original mounts and hull in...

Re: Grampian 28 Engine Mounts

When the engine is at idle and you look down from the companionway, you can see the engine mounts under the flywheel "flopping" from side to side. They lean left and right with engine rotation. The...

Re: Grampian 28 Engine Mounts

I took a look under the engine, and I see what seems to be four vibration isolators. I don't know what condition they are in, but they are there! ;)

I cleaned up the area a bit to see what I'm up...

Re: How much deck over the cabin do I remove?

loki9, thanks, but I got it to work by twiddling the url! :)

Mr. Chef, what year is your boat? I think the 26 was produced till Grampian folded in the late 70's?

boatpoker, so when the water...

Re: How much deck over the cabin do I remove?

boatpoker, so if it freezes, should I be able to tell where the water is in the core? Or does that take a few years to be apparent?

Re: How much deck over the cabin do I remove?

Has the video been taken off of youtube?

Copy pasting the url doesn't work for me... Really hoping to see how the deck looks.

Never mind, mucking around with the url got it to work!

So...

Grampian 28 Engine Mounts

Hello Everyone,

So this old 1975 Grampian 28 we just bought has cracked engine mounts. The engine shakes when it runs and this has been designated as the no. 1 issue to deal with before the boat...

Re: How much deck over the cabin do I remove?

Mr. Chef, your 26 has the outboard engine right? If so that really helps keep costs under control. If it just cost you a few hundred bucks to get it towed to your place, that is not much of a risk,...

Re: How much deck over the cabin do I remove?

My approach so far is start with an inexpensive boat, and learn from there. Don't put silly amounts of money into it, because you will never get it back out!

Time is a bit different though, some...

Re: How much deck over the cabin do I remove?

I've also heard of that injecting epoxy into rotten wood method but I really don't like that approach!

I would drill holes strictly to map out the extent of the water saturation and help dry it...

Re: How much deck over the cabin do I remove?

On my boat I've been thinking of drilling a regular grid of 1/4 inch holes (maybe from inside the cabin), 1 inch or so apart. I saw this in a West System PDF as a way of drying out the core where it...

Re: Winterizing Penta MD6A Without Running It

Thanks for the ideas Mike. So far we have been able to run the engine, so we got anti-freeze into the cooling water loop and out the exhaust. We checked the thermostat and found it had been cut out,...

Volvo Penta MD6A Thermostat

Hello Everyone,

I popped open the thermostat housing today and notice the thermostat has been gutted. Only the seal remains with ring of metal to hold it in place. Someone didn't like it so they...

Winterizing Penta MD6A Without Running It

Hello Everyone,

I'm just wondering if it is possible to effectively winterize a Volvo Penta MD6A without running the engine?

Even if it is a bit more time consuming, it might be the best thing...

Re: How much deck over the cabin do I remove?

Faster, yes that is the debate... I like working fiberglass and epoxy, and I tend to be on the fussy side when it comes to cleaning up the asthetics of a repair. Now for someone who doesn't like...

Re: How much deck over the cabin do I remove?

I have a Grampian 28 with the same situation. I'm also thinking of removing the little pedestals.

I'm not really inclined to work from the inside. It is more awkward! I'd much prefer to work on a...

Re: Dropping rudder - Grampian 28

Yes, overall the entire boat seems fairly solid. Bits and pieces I can take off and work on during the winter are higher up the to do list.

So I might pull off the rudder once other things are...

Re: Dropping rudder - Grampian 28

Hi Denise,

It has a tiller. I tried to drill holes in the bottom, but things seem solid there and no water came out. The water pocket seems about a 1/4 of the way up. There is a section...

Well my wife and I finaly bought a boat, a 1975 Grampian 28. We want to get it ready for winter here in Ontario. It was pulled out of the water a few days ago by the previous...
