Re: 2015 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

The best way to cross Long Bar was discussed in this thread: http://www.sailnet.com/forums/chesapeake-bay/87422-crossing-sandbar-harrington-harbor-north-deale.html

The directions and headings on...

Re: Chesapeake Bay Eats

My wife and I went up to Annapolis yesterday to have my alternator tested at Pasco - their service is really pretty top-notch - and used it as an opportunity to try out Vin 909. I saw a review of it...

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

I've been a little lax about updating our "log," but we've been having some nice daysails with light winds. The in-laws were in town one-weekend, so at least the light winds made for nice...

Re: Tiller or Wheel for Solo?

Both my boats have had wheels, so can't really answer that debate. A good autopilot, as many have said, helps greatly.

Honestly, my 35 ft boat is easier to single-hand than my 27 ft. I find it's...

Re: Day Docking / Mooring in Annapolis

Thanks.

I didn't find the dockage info when I checked the harbor master page.

Day Docking / Mooring in Annapolis

My in-laws are coming in town this weekend and I am thinking about a day sail to Annapolis or Eastport either Friday or Saturday - maybe both days.

I'd like to take the water taxi or just step on...

Re: Jellyfish west/rhode river?

I was anchored in the Rhode this weekend. Didn't see any nettles and there were a lot of folks in the water - though I wasn't one of them. A dockmate said he saw one last weekend over in the Miles,...

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

We had a couple great sails - for different reasons - the past few days.

Sunday saw ideal conditions for entertaining non-sailing friends on the boat and Monday was nothing short of a top-notch...

Re: Mill Creek (Whitehall Bay) Inlet

Thanks again for the local knowledge. We made it in and out without incident. The depth sounder read 6.5 ft at one point - little shallow for my taste - but enough for my draft when you add in the...

USS New York to the Bay?

Not trying to start a political discussion, just thought folks might be interested:

No, due to her draft and the shallowness of the Potomac River, the New York will most likely stay out at sea...

Re: Mill Creek (Whitehall Bay) Inlet

Thanks. This perfect. I'll plot it on my chart.

I knew there were boats with deep drafts near there, just wondering what their tricks were for getting in and out.

Thanks again.

Re: Mill Creek (Whitehall Bay) Inlet

Thanks for the info.

I'm open to suggestions aside from Cantler's but have an aversion to the South River on the weekends. Last time I was up there, it was like a game of Frogger with all the...

Mill Creek (Whitehall Bay) Inlet

I believe there are a couple Mill Creeks on the Bay, but I'm looking for some local knowledge about the one off Whitehall Bay.

I'd like to sail to Cantler's on Saturday for some crabs. The charts...

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

Yes, you anchored across the Bay by that odd boat with the wind up toy thing on top. I actually saw that same boat on a mooring in Annapolis over Memorial Day.

You were upwind from the music, wise...

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

We had another great weekend on the boat - with just a couple minor hiccups. Slept at the dock on Thursday, then sailed to St. Michaels on Friday and anchored out in the Wye on Saturday.

Mo?...

Re: Local Insurance rates/recommendations

Nothing but good experiences from BoatUS. My last boat took on water during Sandy and they were very easy to deal with.

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

Memorial Day is a pretty special weekend for a lot of reasons - our troops, the start of summer, the sudden abundance of American flags - but it also might be the best sailing weekend of the year.

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

We had two great day sails this past weekend and snuck in a nice dinghy ride Friday night to check out the other boats. I plan on sailing with a friend on Saturday and then taking Cordelia out on...

Another great weekend.

Hope the lack of posts on here this season means that everyone is too busy sailing and not too busy to sail.

Re: Smallest boat you can live with

We have never had overnight guests on our boat. It would, honestly, be cramped and not very private. But, like you said, it's plenty of room for the two of us. We actually wanted to maximize outdoor...

Re: Smallest boat you can live with

We - mainly my wife - made a list of "must haves" when we were looking to upgrade from our 27 footer.

Top of the list was a cockpit large enough to entertain more than one other couple without...

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

I'm hoping this will be the last hiccup for a while. A friend said that bad things come in 3s. We had work done on our AC, the boat engine was overheating and now the car. Hopefully that gets us over...
