Re: Manson Supreme

I hesitate to ask this, but since someone else started the anchor thread....

...is a Spade likely to have roughly the same performance as the Rocna/Manson/Mantus anchors? I tried a Rocna and...

Re: Tallyho, the hunt is over?

Ah, that makes more sense now. I'd bet you'd start to fly if you cracked off a bit more. I really like the look of the cat ketches. And you can enjoy sailing up rivers and constricted areas when...

Re: Tallyho, the hunt is over?

Glad to hear that the survey went so well. Sounds like you found a great boat. I'm just surprised that in 10-15 knots on a reach, you were only getting 6 knots. I can understand that speed if...

Re: Docking for Dummies

I took the same class a couple of years ago and also thought it was well worth the money. I learned a lot in the two days. Unfortunately, I do not get to practice all of those skills as much as I'd...

Re: Air Head Composting Toilet or Similar Mfg.

Donna,
Thank you for the explanation. It's clear that you and the other moderators made a thoughtful decision and I have no desire to second guess it.

I did, however, want to ask a clarifying...

Re: Vessel traffic program for iPad

Yup, I agree...that's why I just installed a new VHF with AIS receiver. But before I had that, I used the iphone app. I knew it was not complete, but being aware of that limitation it was better...

Re: Vessel traffic program for iPad

For a web site, there is Live Ships Map - AIS - Vessel Traffic and Positions - AIS Marine Traffic (http://www.marinetraffic.com) They also have an app, but I use shipfinder on my iphone.

Re: Best North American boat show?

Annapolis show is huge. Much, much larger than Newport show. I have not been to the others but Annapolis show bills itself as the largest in the country.

(Newport is power and sail. In...

Re: Maintenance videos

I paid to join Off Center Harbor and support their work. I think their videos are excellent. Really beautifully done and many showcase some drop dead gorgeous boats.

Re: Headed for LI Sound and Beyond

Ah, makes sense. I have never tried using a kellet and have heard mixed views on their usefulness. What's your strategy in deploying a kellet (as it seems to have worked well for you.)

Re: Headed for LI Sound and Beyond

Chef,
Has your Hunter friend tried an anchor riding sail? My boat loves to sail at anchor so I purchased the Findelta anchor sail from Banner Bay Marine. Easy to rig, and as soon as it's rigged,...

Re: New to sailing

Great boat! When my wife and I were first married, we had an old Sailstar Explorer (very similar to the O'Day) on Narragansett Bay. Dollar for dollar, probably the most fun we've had in a boat.

Re: Pros and cons for a double ender/Canoe Stern

I suspect quite a few boats of all types. Two 30 foot Nonsuches (that I know of) were abandoned at sea, but later found and are currently sailing again (years later). One was abandoned in the...

Re: Headed for LI Sound and Beyond

I am hoping to make a similar trip for the first time next summer. I read T37chefs thread with great interest and expect to learn a lot from this one too. Thanks for posting and have a great time.

Re: Anyone have experience with Force 10 heaters

My boat came with a Force 10. Burner was not operational. Spare parts for the burner are not available but you can buy the whole burner assembly from Sig Marine. That's what I did. I agree the...

Re: So where the heck do you shower???

I have a separate shower stall in my 30 foot Nonsuch. Jumping in the Chesapeake Bay to get clean is not really an option. But for one night cruises we frequently rely on sponge baths instead of a...

Re: Favorite iPad cover?

I have the Lifeproof case for my iPhone but did not like the company's case for the ipad. I got the Otterbox instead and think it provides much better impact protection. That's ok for me because my...

Re: What to look for (or look out for) in small outboard

I went back and they still had the motor. Superficially it looks good, hoses seem to be flexible not rotten etc. I love how light it is. Decided to buy it and got the price down to $275. Store...

What to look for (or look out for) in small outboard

I'm looking for a small light outboard for my dink. A local used marine store has a Johnson 2hp for sale. Looks ideal and priced at about $300. I believe the store services the outboards before they...

Daysails vs Destinations

I've come to the conclusion that I prefer sailing to a destination more than just going for a day sail.

Don't get me wrong. Much of the sailing I do is just day sailing on the Chesapeake. And...

Re: Marine Air Conditioning Install

How loud are the marine a/c units?

I've considered having an a/c unit installed on my boat. My yard advises that the best location would be up high in the wet locker in the forward stateroom. It...
