Re: Martec folder destroyed by neighbor's electrical problem
Thought so. I keep my boat unplugged and used a solar panel to trickle charge the batteries for fear of just this sort of a problem (not to mention the more general danger of having an unattended...

Was your client's boat also plugged into shore power, or was it "ungrounded"?

Re: dnf because of county police boat?
It sounds more like "improper speed close to another vessel", rather than "improper speed" per se. It also sounds a bit like the cops thought there was going to be a collision, got a little pissed,...

Yes. That's another problem I've run into. In the case of my boat the difference was very apparent, so there was no way I could have installed the wrong impeller. But, it's easy to imagine the...

That's the problem I had a couple of years ago with my 2gm20. The opening where the water gets injected into the exhaust was completely clogged with scale and carbon (there was also a lot of carbon...

Not all solid fuel stove are made to burn coal. It burns awfully hot, and can pretty much destroy a stove not built to handle such. Not to mention that the resultant problems that over-heating the...

Re: My Horror Story
Not being able to buck a 1.5 kt current is a bit suspicious. Even with a fouled bottom and prop I would expect an 8 hp engine to be able to do 3 or 4 kts.

Re: Installed and tested second automatic bilge pump
Yes. It should be secured. Think about what happens when the boat heels, and/or you are going upwind into a steep chop.
Ideally, everything in the boat should stay in place if a knockdown/capsize....

Re: Coleman stove in the cockpit?
The difference is that I can still cook dinner with my alcohol stove. If it does take any longer to cook than does a propane stove, and that us open to debate, it isn't enough of a difference to...

All the effort everyone with a gas stove puts into making them "safe" (your word, not mine). Why not just use a much safer fuel in the first place. Because, no matter how many safety gizmos you add...

Re: Stove food
Is the alcohol stove pressurized or non-pressurized? If it's the latter, it's far safer than propane/LPG. If it's the former, replace it with a non-pressrized alcohol stove; the cost of the stove...

Re: Coleman stove in the cockpit?
