Re: Boat Trucking from Northeast Coast to Great Lakes

My 46 foot 12.5 wide with shallow 5 foot draft (less than 13.5 on the trailer) was $4500 18 months ago from Maryland to Monroe Michigan
The height will raise the price a lot if over the 13.5

A 26 inch boat is pretty small

Most go with weather windows. tankers/freighters are on a schedule sailboats aren't (or shouldn't be)

Re: 10K$ boat --- Are Insurance and Survey REALLY mandatory?

Home Owners Insurance
Many home owners policies cover liability insurance for sailboats up to 23 or 26foot. Check with your agent & see if you are covered.
Save your money and don't buy insurance...

Re: Bummed...

Light crowd Friday , But had a packed house Saturday.
Having fewer boats there meant longer lines to see those that were there.
Seminars were great as always.

Re: Plastic or Aluminum for water tanks?

Don't forget stainless steel
Also I pulled a 40 year old plastic tank out of my boat that did have an inspection port.

Re: Cold start yanmar 2gm

Don't set your boat on fire. Place a hair blow dryer in the engine compartment aimed at the intake manifold for about 10 min , should start like a warm engine.

Re: loose footed main

I found with a loose foot that I can see the lower sail shape much easier and it inspires me to adjust the outhaul more often thereby I get better performance out of the sail.

The collar on the sospenders make them more comfortable so you will wear it more often.

Re: Looking for pointers on painting the bottom

Don't go with just 3 points holding the boat.

From your pics I see you have vc17 it only takes a couple of hours to do , save it till the spring. like others have said just scuff the surface...

Re: Wind-vane now? Or wait for next boat?

If adjusting the wheel pilot doesn't help with the power consumption, another battery bank is much cheaper than a wind vane and any future buyer would probably much rather have the extra amps.

Re: Styrofoam everywhere!

If its chopped up it will just float out of the holds, so its not going to keep you afloat.
Clean it out & if you want flotation in those spaces get some spray in flotation foam.

Re: WM Foul Weather Gear

If cost is an issue, check Cabelas or Bass pro shops, some of their fishing foul weather gear is identical , priced less , more sizes available (2x 3x) just not in the pretty sailing colors.

Re: I Think I Found The Right Boat

You don't have to stick to buying in your area. Boats are shipped all over the country. You could find a nice boat that size elsewhere plus shipping for a lot less.
