There are websites that detail how to, essentially, jailbreak a Garmin NUVI to accept marine charts, but you have to buy the Garmin charts at $100, so it's just simpler to buy a purpose built older...

I actually considered a LN2 closed loop system run through a cold water/glycol circulator, but it became too complicated. That was a simple way that we used to simulate space temperatures at NASA....

I got them cleaned up as well as I could. At least the bearings spin freely...I did use hot, soapy water to clean them before applying MilSpec white lithium grease and oiled the pawls and springs....
