Re: Is there an online resource to show sailing distance between to points?

Thanks for all of the responses... I think Active Captain will best serve my needs... I like how you can plot on top of the nautical charts, so you can take into account the placement of channel...

Re: New Father...Advice needed on sailing with kids

We only charter, so we're limited in terms of improvements that can be made to the boat to make it easier to have a baby/infant on board. We have two kids, a five-year-old and an 18-month-old. The...

Re: First sailboat for a very tall guy with a very tall family

Check out the Catalina 350... 35' boat with 6' 6" of headroom down below. We chartered one a couple of times on the Bay and I can attest to the headroom down below. It's insane for a 35' boat. ...

Re: Is there an online resource to show sailing distance between to points?

How do you do this in Active Captain? I tried to figure it out, but didn't see it anywhere. Thanks,

Kevin

Is there an online resource to show sailing distance between to points?

In the back of the chart books there is a table that allows you to figure out the distance in NM between two points. Is that available online anywhere? I searched but couldn't find anything. ...

Thanks... you must have been reading my mind because that's exactly where I was thinking as well, in addition to Drum Point.

Re: Entrance channel to Fairlee Creek silted in...

Thanks for the responses... I know Fairlee Creek is not favored among most on here, but I personally like it. I think the entrance is interesting since it is not often you can get so close to land...

Re: Entrance channel to Fairlee Creek silted in...

Any update on this? I'm heading out the weekend of October 10th and Fairlee was going to be one of my stops. I'll be on a charter out of Rock Hall on a Catalina 31', with a draft of 4' 10".

Re: Chartering out of Rock Hall... a few questions.

Thanks... I was worried about the draft being an issue... I'm leaning more toward Bay Bridge Marina because it's more directly on our way to Annapolis from RH.

Re: Chartering out of Rock Hall... a few questions.

Thanks for the response... I should have been more clear... Annapolis would be the second night, so I'm trying to find somewhere to go the first night. I wouldn't take the Narrows from Rock Hall...

Re: Chartering out of Rock Hall... a few questions.

Thanks... the boat has a 65ft mast height, so that should be good.

Chartering out of Rock Hall... a few questions.

Hi,

We're planning a charter out of Rock Hall, MD, for the weekend of 7/25/15. It will begin Friday and end Sunday, so two nights (three days). We're going to charter a large boat (48'), with a...

Re: Kent Narrows

Well I'm happy to report that we made it through the Narrows without incident. Our draft was 4' 8". The depth gauge went down to 4.2' at the lowest point (that I noticed). I think the depth gauge...

I heard back from the women from that blog I posted earlier... she said her drafit is 5' 5" and she didn't hit the bottom at all... stayed in the middle of the newly marked channel and hit it at high...

Re: Kent Narrows

Thanks for the response. I think I'll just plan to go via the Kent Narrows and adjust if necessary when we depart. High tide is supposed to be at 2:30 p.m., so if we hit the 1:00 p.m. bridge...

Re: No A/C when motoring?

Thanks for all the replies... I didn't think about the power output or cooling size requirements of the boat v. a car, but I guess that answers my question. I know a generator can be used but I...

No A/C when motoring?

Hi everyone,

I don't own a boat (yet), but we've done a fair amount of chartering on the Nothern Chesapeake Bay. Our last trip was July 6-8 during the extreme heat. The high temperature was...

Re: Fairlee Creek entrance with 6' 3" draft?

Thanks for all the responses. We ended up switching boats to a Catalina 350 with a 4' 6" draft and it's a good thing we did. On the way into Fairlee Creek, we registered less than 4' 6" in several...

Re: Fairlee Creek entrance with 6' 3" draft?

Thanks guys... I called the dock master at Great Oak Landing and he gave me the same info... go at high tide. The problem is high tide is noonish and we probably won't be out of our slip in Harve...

Hi everyone,

We're chartering out of Harve de Grace, MD, next weekend and we were planning on either anchoring or getting a slip in Fairlee Creek the first night. I know some people don't like...
