Re: Too big for a sunfish?

I am 210 and routinely sail ours.
Recently had it out with myself and my two really tiny twenty something daughters.
Also, have been out with myself and just as big Brother in Law.
Have fun!

Re: Chicago to South Manitou Island

Worst!, The winds can be flukey and on your little run from Chicago to South Manitou it is possible to be becalmed for a day or more sitting in the same spot for hours, we don't always have...

Re: Cal 25-2 Rigging

Approx 6.3 Knots.
Easy enough to calculate using known specifications. LWL of Cal 25-II = 22 Feet.
Hull Speed = (Sq Rt / LWL) x 1.34

Re: Chicago River trip

How the hell did you get your boat prepped for the season Outside mast up? Wax & compound do not like cold.
It's still in the 40's although it seems you picked the right day with temps reaching 60...

Re: Zebra Mussels - Lakes

Biggest problem is to the speed transducer paddle wheel. They can clog and stop it from properly functioning. Over the years I have found e few broken pieces of shells in my strainer, but NOTHING to...

Re: Moody 41 AC has no traditional traveler?

When you press the dealer with the question, his likely response will be, "Nobody uses the traveler anymore." Just like the demise of a dedicated full chart table and navigation station, "Nobody...

Re: Chapter 1: Our first cruise

What a great story. You even had the balls to set a pretty high goal for your first time out. I personally believe that you have many years ahead of you of fine sailing and quality time with your...

Re: Degree of difficulty in circumnavigating Lake Superior ?

First thing I would recommend before departing is a 30watt fixed Radio.
Your hand held is really only good for about 3-5 miles transmission.
With the type of cruising you are planning, a good vhf...

Re: Going to a smaller wheel?

The folding wheel might be an option while at dock or the hook.
It is very simple to remove as well, but a pain to store.
Would not want to reduce anything while underway.
I know exactly what you...

Re: Lake Michigan and Huron levels historic low

It is very popular to blame a lot of the lower levels on the St Claire Dredging. I can't tell you how many times I have heard this. And yes, it has not helped.

My counter to this is the fact that...

Re: Beginner in a Macgregor-Venture 25 on Lake MI

Re: Beginner in a Macgregor-Venture 25 on Lake MI

Are we talking Western and the River?

1. Your not going to raise and lower your mast and sail in the river. At most it is what 300 feet wide? And the bridges downtown are a block or two apart. I...

Re: Beginner in a Macgregor-Venture 25 on Lake MI

Have a buddy that sailed his Venture 25 out of Michigan City.
He was very careful not to push it when things pipped up.
I sent him an email, he should be along to help out.
